FDL County Board Of Health Takes Up Marijuana Referendum Issue

Fond du Lac County’s Board of Health next month will decide if they back putting an advisory referendum before voters that asks them if marijuana should be legalized for adult use. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says typically the board does not get involved in ballot questions. She says, “Putting questions on or off a ballot wouldn’t be something that we would typically discuss. But if you are talking about legalizing marijuana in general that would be a topic that public health would have an opinion on.” Mueller feels if marijuana were legal it would be easier for kids to have access to it and poison control calls would increase. The referendum would ask if the state legislature should legalize marijuana for adult use, just for medicinal use or if it should still be a criminal offense to use and possess it. The Board of Health meets October 2nd.
