Jordan Love connected with Christian Watson on two of his three touchdown passes and the resurgent Green Bay Packers won their third straight game, 27-19 over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

The Packers scored touchdowns on three of their first four drives and never trailed, with their defense making two big stops in the last 5 1/2 minutes. Green Bay knocked down Mahomes’ pass into the end zone on the game’s final play.

The Packers (6-6) improved their December record to 16-0 under coach Matt LaFleur. The only team ever to win more consecutive December games was the San Diego Chargers with 18 straight from 2006-09, before their move to Los Angeles.

Love went 25 of 36 for 267 yards. Tight end Ben Sims had a 1-yard catch for his first career touchdown, and Love added TD passes of 9 and 12 yards to Watson.

Mahomes was 21 of 31 for 210 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception for the Super Bowl champion Chiefs (8-4), who lost in front of pop superstar Taylor Swift for the first time. Kansas City had won its previous four games Swift had attended since beginning her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce.

Kansas City still leads the AFC West but fell behind three other teams for the top seed in the conference.

Isiah Pacheco rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown before getting ejected for punching Keisean Nixon during a scuffle on the game’s final series. Noah Gray had a 2-yard TD catch early in the fourth quarter that got Kansas City within two.

Mahomes had a couple of late chances to tie the game or take the lead.

Kansas City had a first down just beyond midfield when Nixon picked off Mahomes’ pass intended for Skyy Moore with 5:14 left. The turnover set up a 48-yard field goal by Anders Carlson that made it 27-19.

Kansas City got the ball back at its own 30 with 1:09 left and no timeouts remaining.

Mahomes had a 10-yard run and got hit by Jonathan Owens while going out of bounds, leading to a personal foul that put the ball at Green Bay’s 45. Rashee Rice then appeared to fumble, with Green Bay’s Corey Ballentine returning it for a game-clinching touchdown, but replays showed Rice was down before the ball came loose.

Kansas City couldn’t capitalize. The Chiefs argued in vain for a pass interference call on a long incompletion to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the final minute. The Chiefs had the ball at Kansas City’s 33 on the game’s final play, when Mahomes threw into a crowd, and there was plenty of contact before the ball fell to the ground.

On the injury front the Packers Christian Watson injured his hamstring while running for a first down late in the fourth quarter. CB Jaire Alexander (shoulder) missed a fourth consecutive game. RB Aaron Jones (knee) and TE Josiah Deguara (hip) were out for a second straight game.

The Packers play on the road against the New York Giants on Monday, Dec. 11.

There was just one other game Sunday in the NFC North as Detroit bounced back from a Thanksgiving Day loss at home to the Packers to win at New Orleans over the Saints, 33-28.  Minnesota and Chicago had their bye week.

The Lions got off to a 21-0 first quarter lead before leading at the half 24-10. The Saints rallied with 14 third quarter points to narrow the gap to 27-21 entering the fourth quarter.  Each team then traded touchdowns in the final quarter and the Lions held on for the win to increase their NFC North leading record to 9-3.  The Saints fell to 5-7 and are tied with the Buccaneers in the NFC South, one game behind the Falcons.

Detroit’s Jared Goff was 16-25 for 213 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints Derek Carr completed 17 of 222 yards and a touchdown along with an interception.

In Monday Night Football the Bengals (5-5) are on the road playing the Jaguars (8-3).

The Wisconsin Badgers and coach Luke  Fickell’s Badgers have been selected for a New Years Day clash with a top-25 SEC opponent.

The Badgers will play in the ReliaQuest Bowl against 13th-ranked LSU, who finished the season at 9-3. The bowl game is scheduled for 11 a.m CST on New Years Day in Tampa Bay, Florida. The high-powered Tigers will provide a test for the Badgers, who boast the 16th-best defense in college football, holding opponents to less than 19 points a game. LSU had only 3 games all season where they scored fewer than 40 points. On the other hand, they gave up 30+ points 7 times.

Yet to be seen is which players on both sides opt out of the game, One name to watch is LSU QB Jayden Daniels, who is eligible for the NFL draft and could see mid-round consideration by teams in need of a quarterback. Daniels has 3,812 yards, 40 TDs, and just 4 INTs through the air this year, complimented by 1,134 rushing yards and 10 TDs.

The matchup is a preview of the Badgers future, as LSU’s brand of explosive offense and lackluster defense is similar to that of the PAC-12 teams joining the Big Ten next season.

The last time the Badgers beat LSU was 2016, when the two met at Lambeau Field and the Badgers defense stifled the offense of the #5 Tigers, shutting them out for nearly 3 quarters.

The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly agreed to a contract extension with their top prospect Jackson Chourio.  According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, The deal is expected to be 8 years, 82 million with two club options that could max the deal out at 142.5 million if the option years are later exercised.

Chourio is the Brewers top prospect and ranked #2 in MLB according to MLB.com. He has played in every level of minor league baseball.

The Brewers signed Chourio in 2021 as a 16-year-old.  Last year he hit .280 with 22 home runs. The Brewers are expected to hold a press conference to make the reported deal official.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 32 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for his first triple-double of the season and 36th overall, helping the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Atlanta Hawks 132-121 on Saturday night.

Damian Lillard added 25 points and nine assists, and Cameron Payne had 18 points in 20 minutes off the bench. Milwaukee won its seventh straight at home and avenged its only loss in 10 home games this season, a 127-110 setback to the Hawks in late October.

Trae Young led Atlanta with 32 points and 12 assists. Dejounte Murray added 30 points, and Clint Capela had 10 points and 17 rebounds.

Milwaukee outscored Atlanta 18-7 in the final five minutes, with Lillard hitting a 15-foot jumper and Antetokounmpo driving for a left-handed layup for a 123-116 lead.

The Bucks played without reserves Pat Connaughton (right ankle sprain) and Andre Jackson (lower back spasms).

The Bucks host New York on Tuesday night in the NBA In-season Tournament quarterfinals.

Max Klesmit scored all 21 of his points before halftime, Steven Crowl added 16 and Wisconsin capitalized on its rebounding superiority to beat No. 3 Marquette 75-64 on Saturday.

Wisconsin (6-2) beat Marquette (6-2) for a third straight season in this in-state rivalry between schools separated by just 79 miles. This marks the first three-game winning streak for either team in the 130-game series since the Badgers won four straight from 1998-2001.

After trailing by 16 in the closing seconds of the first half, Marquette went on a 17-2 run to get the margin down to one with 14:46 left in the game. But the Golden Eagles never could grab the lead and failed to make a basket for more than seven minutes at one point in the second half, enabling Wisconsin to regain its double-digit advantage.

Marquette cut the lead to 67-62 on a Tyler Kolek 3-pointer with 3:52 left, but the Golden Eagles got no closer the rest of the way.

Kam Jones scored 19 and Kolek added 11 for Marquette. AJ Storr had 13 and Tyler Wahl 10 for Wisconsin, which outrebounded the Golden Eagles 38-23 and outscored them 18-2 in second-chance points.

Klesmit had never scored more than 19 points in a game since transferring from Wofford to Wisconsin before the start of last season. He shot 6 of 9 overall on Saturday, 5 of 8 from 3-point range and 4 of 4 on free-throw attempts.

His big first half helped Wisconsin take a 46-33 lead at the break. Klesmit’s career scoring high is 27 points, something he did twice at Wofford.

Jones sank a 3-pointer with two seconds left and made another to start the second half and spark a Marquette comeback. Wisconsin’s lead was down to one with 14:46 remaining.

Jones missed a 3-pointer that would have given Marquette its first lead with just under 12 minutes left. The margin was still at one with about 11 minutes remaining before Wisconsin went on a 10-2 spurt to regain a double-digit edge.

AJ Storr capped the spurt by driving past Chase Ross, dunking and drawing a foul for a 3-point play

that made it 65-55 with 5:37 left. Marquette had two points and no baskets for a stretch that lasted just over seven minutes.

Marquette hosts Texas on Wednesday in a Big East/Big 12 Battle matchup. Marquette coach Shaka Smart coached Texas from 2015-21.

For the first time since Nov. 4, Jim Harbaugh walked the Wolverines sideline as No. 2 Michigan overwhelmed No. 16 Iowa 28-0 at Lucas Oil Stadium to capture its third consecutive outright Big Ten title, a first in team history. Michigan became the fifth team in FBS history to start consecutive seasons at 13-0 and posted just the second shutout in Big Ten championship game history, after the 2014 Ohio State team that blanked Wisconsin 59-0 and went on to a national championship.

The Wolverines are set to receive their third straight College Football Playoff berth Sunday.

Mike Saiinristil won the championship game MVP honors, Sainristil, who forced two of three Iowa fumbles in the win,

Defense and special teams propelled Michigan against Iowa, which limited the Wolverines to 213 yards and only one scoring drive of longer than 28 yards. Semaj Morgan’s 87-yard punt return — the longest ever in a Big Ten championship game — set up Michigan’s first touchdown.

The Wolverines held Iowa to 2.8 yards per play, 4-of-15 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth down while allowing only three Hawkeyes drives to cross midfield. Harbaugh had served the suspension from the Big Ten, imposed on Michigan for a prohibited off-campus signal-stealing operation led by former staff member Connor Stalions, who resigned Nov. 3. After watching Michigan’s Nov. 11 win at Penn State from the team hotel, Harbaugh joined his brother, John, the Baltimore Ravens coach, for a Nov. 18 win at Maryland. He then stayed home to watch last week’s win against archrival Ohio State, which put the Wolverines in the league championship.

Although Harbaugh could lead practices and game-planning, he had no involvement with Michigan on game days, as offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore served as acting head coach. Harbaugh described his mood after Saturday’s win as “10 out of 10, happy” and wanted to get as many players on stage for the trophy presentation as it could safety hold.
