MILWAUKEE MAN CHARGED FOR FDL COUNTY VEHICLE CHASE

Prosecutors in Fond du Lac County have charged a 22-year-old Milwaukee man for an 8-mile vehicle chase in and around Fond du Lac that involved Sheriff’s deputies and the State Patrol. Cung Nun Kham is charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety, felony fleeing, a 3rd OWI, operating while revoked, and one count each of felony and misdemeanor bail jumping. Kham made his initial court appearance yesterday. Bond was set at $50,000 cash. No one was hurt during the November 20th pursuit, but Kham’s vehicle narrowly missed a state trooper who was putting down stop sticks. The vehicle chase began when Kham allegedly made an unsafe lane deviation while exiting from Interstate 41 northbound onto US Highway 151. (Fond du Lac County Jail photo).

FDL MAN CHARGED WITH SEVENTH OWI IN DODGE COUNTY

Bond has been set at $20,000 cash for a 52-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of fleeing from Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies while he was under the influence. According to the criminal complaint Wayne Bagneski fled from a Sheriff’s deputy in the town of Beaver Dam last Friday. The deputy was trying to pull him over after running the license plates and finding the registered owner had a revoked license. The pursuit was 1.7 miles and ended when Bagneski stopped his vehicle on Kellom Road and fled on foot. He was caught after a short foot chase. He is charged with his 7th OWI offense, felony fleeing, resisting an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on December 7th.

RIPON SELFRIDGE PARK GRANT REQUEST BEFORE JFC

State Senator Joan Ballweg says the City of Ripon’s request for funding for a $418,000 Stewardship Grant for improvements to Selfridge Park is before the state’s Joint Finance Committee. Ballweg is a member of the committee and feels the request will be granted. A number of improvements are planned next year for the park. Those improvements would include ADA accessible kayak and canoe launches, fishing piers, river walks, a parking lot, and a couple of shelter areas. Plans would also include improving the playground and general layout of the park. It is the first Stewardship Grant the city has ever received.  The state lawmaker from Markesan expects the request to be approved within the next few weeks.

RIPON OFFICIALS ADDRESS SIREN TESTING COMPLAINTS

City officials in Ripon say one of the biggest complaints they receive is over the weekly testing of outdoors sirens at noon on Saturdays. The Common Council this week approved a resolution hoping it will spur a reevaluation of the county-wide testing. Ripon officials are hoping it will generate a discussion about the frequency and duration of the timing. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says the testing occurs during peak business hours for the downtown and, “It is not a welcoming or attractive environment for arguably the most important time of the week for our downtown.” He says visitors confused by the testing try to seek shelter in businesses. Mayor Ted Grant says he receives complaints every week about the siren testing. He also pointed out to the Council larger communities have their siren testing at noon on Wednesdays. The resolution approved by the Ripon Common Council suggests moving the testing to noon on Mondays. Copies of the resolution are being forwarded to the Fond du Lac County Emergency Management Director, County Executive, and County Board.

MCARTHUR PROMOTED TO ENVISION VP OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Hard work and determination have paid off for Lisa McArthur of Envision Greater Fond du Lac. Envision President and CEO Sadie Vander Velde says McArthur started with them seven years ago running their youth apprenticeship program. She became part of the economic development team after that. McArthur a few months ago was tabbed as the Interim Vice President of Economic Development for Envision and now has that VP role on a more permanent basis. Vander Velde says McArthur had involvement in getting Flash Trucking to move to Ripon. More recently McArthur was one of the Envision officials to appear before the Ripon Common Council to appeal a funding cut the Council was considering in the 2024 City Budget, which was adjusted.

MERCURY ALLIANT SOLAR POWER PROJECT PARTNERSHIP

Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac will advance the 5-megawatt Ledgeview Solar Project with Alliant Energy after the utility received approval to partner on the project from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. The 32-acre project in eastern Fond du Lac County will further Mercury Marine’s sustainability initiatives and the region’s growing commitment to renewable energy. It’s the first project to receive approval under the Alliant Energy Renewable Energy Partner tariff. The project is expected to be operational next spring, and will include more than 12,000 solar panels generating electricity to power approximately 1,300 homes annually, enough to offset approximately 10 percent of the electricity Mercury uses on its Fond du Lac campus. The array will be located on privately-owned land south of Highway 23, just east of County Highway UU.

WAUPACA COUNTY SILVER SAVE

A Waupaca County Sheriff’s deputy patrolling US Highway 10 Thanksgiving morning made a traffic stop that gave a Kenosha family something to be grateful for. After making contact with the driver, Deputy Brockman learned the man was the subject of a Silver Alert issued out of Kenosha County. Deputy Brockman made sure 73-year-old John West was medically okay and contacted West’s wife. While waiting for the wife to travel to Waupaca, Deputy Brockman and Deputy Deuman took West to a local restaurant for coffee and pie before returning to the Sheriff’s Office. West shared stories with the deputy including his experience as a Vietnam Veteran. When the wife arrived at the Sheriff’s Office, she was overjoyed that her husband was safe and cared for.
