Giannis Antetokounmpo had 35 points and 11 rebounds and Bobby Portis also had a double-double in the Milwaukee Bucks’ 118-109 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.

“He was phenomenal the whole game,” Bucks coach Adrian Griffin said of Antetokounmpo. “We needed him down the stretch, and he kind of took things in his own hands.”

Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard returned to action after missing two games with a calf injury, though he shot just 3 of 17 while scoring 12 points. The Bucks lost both games they played without the seven-time all-NBA guard.

The Bulls were playing for the second straight night after beating the Detroit Pistons 119-108 at home on Sunday.

Bobby Portis had 19 points and 10 rebounds, both season highs.

Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton scored 13 points to enable him to overtake Michael Redd for fifth place on the Bucks’ career scoring list.

Middleton has 11,559 points since joining the Bucks in 2013, while Redd had 11,554 in his Bucks career. The Bucks’ top four scorers are Antetokounmpo (16,575), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (14,211), Glenn Robinson (12,010) and Sidney Moncrief (11,594).

Nikola Vucevic led the Bulls with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Zach LaVine scored 20, Coby White 16, Patrick Williams 13 and DeMar DeRozan 11. DeRozan shot just 3 of 14.

Milwaukee scored the game’s first nine points and outscored Chicago 35-18 during an opening period that ended with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Antetokounmpo, the 500th of his career. Chicago missed 16 of its first 19 field-goal attempts.

The Bulls chipped away at that 17-point deficit and finally took their first lead on an Andre Drummond putback with 5:15 left in the third. The lead changed hands three more times over the next minute or so, with a Portis basket putting Milwaukee back ahead for good.

Portis’ basket started a 12-0 run that helped the Bucks regain a double-digit advantage at 81-70. The Bucks carried an 83-74 advantage into the fourth quarter and didn’t allow the lead to drop below eight the rest of the way.

The Bulls shot just 38%.

Chicago was missing Alex Caruso for a second straight game due to a toe injury. The Bucks were playing their first game without Jae Crowder, who is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday for an adductor and abdominal tear that will leave him unavailable for about two months.

The Bucks play at the Raptors Wednesday night.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Jae Crowder will miss about two months due to a left adductor and abdominal tear.

Crowder got hurt Saturday in a 112 -97 loss at Orlando. The Bucks announced the severity of Crowder’s injury Monday after he was evaluated by Dr. Bill Meyers in Philadelphia. The Bucks said Crowder is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Crowder, 33, had played in each of the Bucks’ first nine games this season and was averaging 8.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists and 26.7 minutes. The 6-foot-6 forward had made two starts.

The Brewers are expected to name Pat Murphy as their new manager, FOX Sports and senior baseball writer for The Athletic Ken Rosenthal reported Monday night.

Murphy has been Milwaukee’s bench coach since 2015 and would replace former manager Craig Counsell, who left Milwaukee to manage the Chicago Cubs.

Murphy, who was Counsell’s head coach when he played at the University of Notre Dame, served as interim manager for the San Diego Padres after then-manager Bud Black was fired in June 2015.

But immediately after the 2015 season, the Padres announced that Murphy would not be promoted to full-time manager.

The Packers are off today.  Green Bay hosts the Chargers Sunday and will be trying to shore up their defense against the run.

The Pittsburgh Steelers rushed for 205 yards and gained 5.7 yards per carry Sunday in a 23-19 victory over the Packers, who have now given up at least 200 yards rushing three times this season.

“It was a combination of missed tackles, missed assignments,” coach Matt LaFleur said Monday. “There were a couple times where we were playing single-high defense where it’s solo gap football and you got two guys in one gap. There were a couple times where they got us in some two-safety looks, and when you do that, you’re going to be a little bit short in terms of your front, and they took what should be 5-, 6-, 7-yard gains and they made them into explosion plays.”

The Packers (3-6) had allowed a total of 130 yards rushing on 57 carries in the two games leading up to Sunday. They gave up 68 yards on 26 carries in a 20-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams last week after alowing 62 yards rushing on 31 attempts in a 24-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Warren ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on 15 attempts, while Najee Harris had 16 carries for 82 yards and a score.

They made Green Bay’s defense look more like it had earlier this season, when it allowed both the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions to rush for 211 yards.

Green Bay’s next game offers a much tougher test with Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers coming to Lambeau Field.

Green Bay has scored touchdowns on just two of its nine trips to the red zone over its past two games. The Packers had one touchdown on five trips inside the 20 on Sunday. They settled for field goals twice after driving inside the 15, then Love threw interceptions on Green Bay’s final two series.

In Monday Night Football the Denver Broncos shocked the Buffalo Bills 24-22 on a last second field goal.  Denver won at Buffalo for the first time since 2007. The game was full of mistakes for the Bills who dropped to 5-5 while the Broncos improved to 4-5.

Denver’s Russell Wilson completed 24 of 29 p asses for 193 yards and two touchdowns while the Bills Josh Allen was 15 for 26 for 177  yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

The Badgers men’s basketball team is back in action tonight at Providence. Wisconsin (1-1) lost at home to #7 Tennessee last Friday night 80-70. AJ Storr led the Badgers with 17 while Steven Crowl chipped in with 14, Chucky Hepburn had 13 and Tyler Wahl socred 10. All of Wahl’s points came in the second half. Tipoff is at 5:00.

In men’s college basketball Monday #4 Marquette hosts # 23 Illinois. Marquette is 2-0 overall with both wins coming on the road while Illinois is also 2-0 with both of their wins coming at home.

Former linebacker Clay Matthews and former defensive end Aaron Kampman are being inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame made the announcement Monday morning. They’ll be formally enshrined at the 53rd Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Thursday, August 29.

Matthews was a first-round pick for the Packers in the 2009 NFL Draft. He played for the Packers for 10 seasons, 2009-2018, and started 137 of the 143 games he played in. He left the NFL after playing for the Los Angeles Rams for one season in 2019.

Matthews holds the team records for most sacks in a rookie season, with 10, and most career sacks since 1982, with 83.5. His six Pro Bowl selections as a Packer have him tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White for second-most in the franchise for a defensive player. He also holds the team record for most sacks in post-season games since 1982, with 11 sacks, and ranks him #6 in NFL playoff history, too.

Kampman also started his career with the Packers and played for eight seasons in Green Bay. He was a 5th-round pick in the 2002 NFL Draft and made 104 starts in 112 games.

In 2006, his breakout year, he made 15.5 sacks, ranking him #2 in the NFL that season and #3 in Packers history. He also made 113 tackles that year, a record for a Packers defensive lineman. His 37 sacks from 2006 to 2008 ranked him #3 in the NFL at that time, and he was a Pro Bowl selection in 2006 and 2007.

Kampman played two more seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before finishing his NFL career.

The Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held in the Lambeau Field Atrium starting with a cash bar at 4 p.m. and the dinner and program at 5:30. Details for getting tickets will be released soon, the Hall of Fame said.

Five games ended with field goals in regulation Sunday, the most in one day in NFL history.

The Cardinals, Browns, Seahawks, Texans and Lions each kicked a field goal as time expired. The previous high in a single day was three.

Cleveland and Arizona were trailing before their kicks. Dustin Hopkins hit a 40-yarder to give the Browns a 33-31 victory at Baltimore. Matt Prater made a 23-yard field goal to lift the Cardinals to a 25-23 win over Atlanta.

Seattle, Houston and Detroit were tied before their decisive field goals.

Jason Myers kicked a 43-yarder, his fifth of the game, to give the Seahawks a 29-26 win against Washington. Riley Patterson connected from 41 yards for the Lions, giving them a 41-38 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Matt Ammendola, signed by Houston this week as an injury replacement, nailed a 38-yard field goal to finish the Texans’ 30-27 victory at Cincinnati.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said his goal is to return from a torn Achilles tendon by mid-December, NBC’s Melissa Stark reported during the telecast of the Jets’ game at Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Rodgers had hinted recently he hopes to return before the end of the season, but this is the most specific he has been. He suffered what was thought to be a season-ending injury in the opener against the Buffalo Bills.

“He said, ‘I know it sounds insane, but you do a good surgery, you have a good patient, it makes this possible,’” Stark said on the telecast.

However, Rodgers, who was on the sideline, told Stark he “just wasn’t feeling it” about throwing passes during pregame warmups as he has the last several weeks.

Rodgers said he has been working on a weight-limiting treadmill, jogging at 50% of his body weight. His goal this week is to increase it to 75%.

When asked after the Jets 16-12 loss to the Raiders, coach Robert Saleh said, “If the doctors clear him, we’ll clear him.”

UW-Oshkosh volleyball’s quest to remain perfect came to an end in the WIAC Tournament Championship. The Titans, who had a conference record 34-game winning streak heading into the match, fell to UW-Whitewater 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 for their first loss of the season.

Set one was a back and forth battle. The longest run in the set came when UWW took a 13-10 lead after a 4-0 run. The Warhawks closed the set on a kill from Aubrie Krzus for the 25-23 win.

The Warhawks never trailed in set two, leading by as much as seven when up 20-13. The Titans battled back in the game, forcing two set points before Kirsten Anderson ended it with a kill to give the Warhawks a 2-0 advantage.

The third set saw big runs from both UWO and UWW. The Warhawks trailed 11-9 before going on an 8-0 run to give them a 17-11 advantage. The Titans responded immediately with a 6-0 run of their own to tie set three at 17 all. UWW took a 24-20 lead off a kill from Allyson Warburton with a sweep in sight for the Warhawks. Back-to-back errors made a comeback seem possible for UWO, but UWW’s Hannah Proctor delivered the final kill to give the Warhawks the 3-0 sweep and WIAC crown.

Riley Kindt led UW-Oshkosh with 10 kills, while Sami Perlberg was second with eight. Abby Fregien contributed 22 digs for the Titans.

The Titans await their postseason fate, which will be revealed Monday during the NCAA Division III selection show.

St. Norbert football’s season isn’t over just yet: the Green Knights have been invited to play in the 2023 Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl in Wauwatosa.

It’s the first-ever bowl game in the program’s 89-year history. They will play Monmouth at 11 AM on Saturday, November 18th at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The game pits the runners-up of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and Midwest Conference.

“The St. Norbert College football program is extremely grateful and excited to be chosen to represent the NACC in the Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl against familiar foe Monmouth College,” St. Norbert coach Dan McCarty said. “It is a great opportunity for our players and program to prepare and compete one last time in the 2023 season.”

Prior to moving from the MWC to the NACC in 2021, St. Norbert and Monmouth squared off in the Midwest Conference Championship Game seven times, with the Green Knights winning five of those seven meetings. Overall, St. Norbert is 23-11 against the Fighting Scots in an all-time series dating back to 1975.

Neenah Rockets senior Allie Ziebell verbally committed to the University of Connecticut in December of 2022 but made that decision official by signing her letter of intent to play for the Huskies on Sunday.

“It was the people, and the culture there they have a hard-working culture,” Ziebell said. “Everyone there is all about work ethic they play together as a team and they are just great people to be around.”

The reigning FOX 11 and Gatorade Player of the Year has one year remaining and hopes to accomplish one more feat before leaving Neenah.

“We really want to go to state this year,” Ziebell said. “We have the team to do it, we just need to keep pushing each other in practice because we have fallen short in the past couple years.”

The Rockets’ first game of the season is Friday against Wausau West.
