At the end of September the Common Council voted unanimously for the prohibition of anything over 10 tons using the street. . Trucks turning south on Metomen Street onto Griswold Street have struck 3 fire hydrants over the past two years at that corner. The most recent incident resulted in a water main break and sinkhole. RIPON LEAD LINE REPLACEMENT PROGRAM

The City of Ripon has a lead service line replacement program to replace older water utility lines. The city has approximately 80 remaining lead service lines, meaning less than three percent of utility customers are affected. For more information about the Lead Service Line Replacement Program call the Ripon Water Department at 920-748-4900. As required by the DNR, phosphates are fed at well sites to prevent lead from entering the water system through contact with lead plumbing. The city offers the following tips to reduce your exposure to lead in your water. Run your water to flush lead out. Run water for one-to two minutes. Use cold water for cooking and preparing baby formula. Do not boil water to remove lead. Determine whether or not the service line that connects your home or apartment to the water line is made of lead. The best way to determine if your service line is made of lead is by either calling the Water Utility, hiring a licensed plumber to inspect the line or by contacting the plumbing contractor who installed the water line. Call the city’s water department to find out how you can get your water tested for lead. It is also recommended that those with lead service lines have their child’s blood tested for possible lead exposure.
