Sports from Wayne Mausser

Christian Yelich padded his National League MVP resume in the Brewers 8-0
win over the Reds by becoming only the fifth player in Major League
History to hit for the cycle twice in the same season, and the first to do
it twice against the same team.

Yelich also hit for the cycle as part of a six-hit night in a wild Brewers
win at Great American Ball Park on August 29th.  Both nights he needed a
triple–and he got it.

Yelich is the first player in Brewers history to hit for the cycle twice
in his career, which has been accomplished nine times.  Before Monday, the
only Brewer to hit for the cycle in a home game was Chad Moeller.

He singled in the first inning, double in the third, hit a two-run home
run in the fifth and then tripled in the sixth.

Domingo Santana also homered for the Brewers, his second pinch-hit shot in
as many days as Milwaukee matched its 2017 win total of 86 and maintained
its three-game lead atop the NL Wild Card standings while staying 2 1/2
games back of the Cubgs in the NL Central.

On the mound, Wade Miley, Josh Hader and Brandon Woodruff combined on an
eight-htter in the Brewers 12th shutout victory this season.  Hader struck
out the side in the sixth, meaning he’s whiffed 17 of 20 batters he’s
faced over his last four appearances.

Tonight, Chase Anderson gets the call as the Brewers try to start another
series winning streak. Michael Lorenzen goes for the Reds.  First pitch is
at 6:40.  The game can be heard on 98.3 and our sister station AM 1100,
WISS.

Twenty-four hours after the Packers tie with the Vikings, officiating is a
hot topic.  At issue is the question…..What constitutes roughing the
passer?

The NFL plans to use linebacker Clay Matthews’ roughing the passer penalty
from the Packers-Vikings game as a teaching tool this week.

THe teaching video plans to emphasize the “scoop-and-pull” move Matthews
used on the hit of Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in the fourth quarter
of Sunday’s game.

The technique the NFL said he used was grabbing the passer from behind the
leg or legs, scooping and pulling in an upward motion, which is a foul
according to the NFL rule book.

Monday Night Football

The Bears beat the Seahawks 24-17 last night.  Chicago improves to 2-1
while Seattle falls to 0-2.
