Bird Tests Positive For West Nile Virus In FDL County

An official with the Fond du Lac County Health Department says a dead crow tested positive for the West Nile virus last month in the County. Joyce Mann says a local resident brought it in. Fall begins Saturday and it may be late for the mosquito-borne illness, but Mann says people should still take precautions against contracting the disease. She says, “Limiting time that you spend outside early morning and late evening when they are most active. Using insect repellent, looking around for any standing sources of water that help them breed.” Most people bitten by mosquitoes who have West Nile virus never get sick from it or show the symptoms. No human cases of the West Nile virus have been reported this season.
