Menasha Robbery Suspect Caught

Appleton Police have a 48-year-old Appleton man in custody they suspect robbed a Menasha store late Sunday night. A Kwik Trip store at the corner of Appleton and Midway Roads was robbed just prior to midnight. Officials say no weapons was displayed, but the suspect got away with cash. Menasha Police shared a description of the suspect and his car with other police departments in the area. Officers in Appleton arrested the suspect about 1:30 Monday morning.

Ripon School Safety Improvements

A school liaison officer with the Ripon Police Department says the Ripon Area School District listened to a number of stakeholders when it came to making safety improvements with the schools. The district is getting more than $161,000 to make improvements. School Liaison Officer Bret Henning says he was one of those who sat in on meetings when the district was considering what it wanted. He says, “We were in on the meetings myself and Chief (Bill) Wallner, and of course the Superintendent (Mary Whitrock), and the grounds manager and the building managers and the principals and stuff like that all had input on it.” Superintendent Mary Whitrock says the improvements should be completed by the end of October.

Countywide Ambulance Feasibility Study Back On The Agenda

The Green Lake County Board of Supervisors will once again consider approving a countywide ambulance feasibility study when they meet tonight. The board delayed their vote last month so the Southern Green Lake County Ambulance Committee could give the proposal more consideration themselves. That Markesan-based service, and ambulance services in Berlin and Princeton are the three ambulance services serving the County. A two-thirds vote of the board is needed to approve the resolution. The board meets at 6 pm at the Government Center in Green Lake.

Tornado Damage Report

The Fond du Lac County Board has a short agenda for their monthly meeting tonight. One of the reports they will receive is from County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken about the damage done by storms on August 28th. More than 10 tornadoes moved through the County that afternoon and evening. The board will also proclaim this month and next month as United Way months in honor of the annual campaigns conducted by the Fond du Lac Area United Way and the Ripon Area United Way. The board meets at 6 pm at the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.

Possible Arson Being Investigated In FDL

Police in Fond du Lac are investigating a fire in the 200 block of Ledgeview Avenue as a possible arson. The fire was reported as a gas leak early Saturday morning. Officers and firefighters responding to the call saw other areas of the house that appeared as if someone had intentionally tried to set them on fire. Fire Department officials say there were signs that someone had tried to set a fire and in one instance a fire fire had gone out on its own. There were other reports of vandalism on the block as well.

Highway 44 Construction Reminder

The state’s Department of Transportation is reminding drivers that State Highway 44 construction in Winnebago County begins Wednesday. The nearly 10 mile stretch affected by the construction extends from the south Fond du Lac/Winnebago County line near Pickett to State Highway 91 in the city of Oshkosh. The $1.9 million project should finish next month. Highway 44 will be open during construction, but there will be single lane closures and flagging operations. Minor delays may occur.

Good Year For Music In The Park

The executive director of the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce says they had a great summer with their Music in the Park series at Deacon Mills Park in Green Lake. Lian Walsh says things couldn’t have been better. She says they had record crowds and it was fantastic. She says, “Our closing show this year the Del Rays their crowd was unbelievable and everybody had a good time. I think we only got rained out once this year.” The free public band concerts return to the park next summer. They are held on Wednesday nights beginning June 12th and ending August 14th.
