Fatal Accident In FDL County

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials have released the name of the
63-year-old Fond du Lac man killed in a two-vehicle collision Friday
morning. Paul Thorpe was not wearing a seatbelt when his vehicle and a
vehicle towing a utility trailer crashed together at the intersection of
Esterbrook and Brown Roads. He was thrown from his vehicle and died at the
scene. Twenty-three-year-old Jacob Carlson of Poy Sippi was driving the
other vehicle. He wasn’t hurt. Carlson failed to stop at a stop sign.

FDL Shooting Arrest

Fond du Lac Police took a 31-year-old Fond du Lac man into custody they
describe as a “person of interest” in the shootings of two people at the
Forest Plaza Apartments last Wednesday night. The man is being held in the
Fond du Lac County Jail on a probation hold from a previous conviction. No
arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. A 26-year-old Fond
du Lac man and 17-year-old Fond du Lac girl were shot during the incident.
They were both taken to hospitals.

Officer Involved Shooting In Manitowoc

State investigators are investigating a deadly shooting involving a
Manitowoc Police officer who responded to a fire alarm. Police said in a
press release the officer and Manitowoc Fire personnel were responding to
an active fire alarm in the 1500 block of South 35th Street early Sunday
morning. While on the scene the officer was confronted by a man with a
blunt instrument. The officer shot the man during the confrontation and
the man died. The officer has been placed on administrative leave. The
Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal investigation is
investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Arrests In Oshkosh Assaults

Oshkosh Police say they got help from the Green Bay Police to arrest two
Green Bay men suspected in a series of assaults near the UW-Oshkosh campus
early the morning of September 8th. The 18 and 20-year-old men are facing
multiple charges including being party to the crime of substantial battery
and robbery. Investigators believe the robbery and assaults were random.
The investigation is still on going. If anyone has any information

Federal Jury Indicts Winnebago County Jail Inmate

A federal grand jury is indicting a man being held in the Winnebago County
Jail.  Thirty-three-year old Chad Grubbs is suspected of mailing
threatening letters to a Jewish community center in the Milwaukee area
while being held in jail. He’s now facing three counts of mailing
threatening communications, one count of threatening to injure and destroy
property by fire and an explosive, and three charges of obstruction of the
free exercise of religious beliefs. Grubbs is being held in jail on
unrelated crimes, and is awaiting sentencing for threatening a judge as a
repeat offender.

Hearing For Fondy Teen Rescheduled

The Fond du Lac teen who pulled a gun in the high school parking lot
during a pickup basketball game won’t be back in Fond du Lac County Court
until next March. A plea and sentencing hearing scheduled this past week
for Julius Freeman has been rescheduled for March 18th and if he maintains
his innocence a two-day jury trial is scheduled for April 10th and 11th.
The 18-year-old was taken into custody for a probation violation after
showing up late for his court hearing last week.

Florence Help

Governor Scott Walker Friday issued an executive order to help those who
were in the path of Hurricane Florence. The order and corresponding
directive will allow the Wisconsin National Guard, and state employees
certified as Red Cross disaster relief volunteers to help if they are
called upon. It also suspends certain restrictions and limitations to help
carriers transport vital emergency relief supplies more efficiently.

Oshkosh Senior National Merit Finalist

Ashlyn Casey, a senior at Oshkosh West High School, has been named a
semifinalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. The
prestigious recognition represents less than one percent of high school
seniors in the United States. In addition to excelling in the classroom,
Casey is involved in numerous extracurricular and volunteer activities.
She is the editor-in-chief of the Oshkosh West school newspaper, is a
member of the Oshkosh West Girls Swimming Team, and is a member of the
O’Neil National Honor Society. After graduating this spring, Casey plans
to attend Kansas State University, and ultimately pursue a Masters of
Architecture.
