The Packers using this early bye week not only to reset and re-evaluate but also try to get healthy in preparation for Sunday’s game at Denver.

Aaron Jones was back out there practicing Monday after missing the game in Vegas with a hamstring injury. Darnell Savage was also practicing after leaving Monday’s game with a calf injury. Quay Walker (knee) warmed up with the team but did not participate in practice itself that was open to the media, and neither was De’Vondre Campbell (ankle).

This Packers team is looking to turn their 2-3 season around after a tough last few weeks.

A comment that is still lingering is what Jaire Alexander said after the loss in Vegas: “Yeah I think at this point it’s pretty obvious that the defense has to not give up any touchdowns. The offense is pretty young and they’re still figuring out their mojo. The defense, we got to be the ones to score and stop them from scoring.”

The Packers defense has not put up any points since Week 1 when Quay Walker got a pick six in Chicago.

It’s only mid-October, but Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott knew Monday was important for the psyche of his team, calling it “a must-win.”Mission accomplished with a 20-17 victory against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Cowboys converted three third-down opportunities on the go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter, although Prescott lamented a missed touchdown pass to running back Tony Pollard before Brandon Aubrey’s ‘s 39-yard field goal gave Dallas a 20-17 lead with 2:19 to play.

A defense that had not sacked Justin Hertber or forced a turnover in the first nine possessions was finally able to get him on the ground (Parsons) and pick him off (Stephen Gilmore) to secure the win.

Prescott was 21-30 for 272 yards and a touchdown pass to Brandon Cooks.  He also led the Cowboys in rushing with 40 yards on 7 carries, including an 18-yard touchdown run. CeeDee Lamb caught 7 passes for 117 yards.

The Chargers Justin Herbert completed 22 of 37 passes for 227 yards, two touchdowns and the interception at the end.

Keenan Allen and Gerald Everett each caught a touchdown pass.  The Charges rushed for just 53 yards on 23 carries.

The Cowboys improved to 4-2 while the Chargers feel to 2-3.

From the jump on Monday afternoon, the Rangers were all over the Astros — beginning with Marcus Semien’s’s base hit on the very first pitch of the game. By the seventh pitch, Texas had a one-run lead against its in-state rival at Minute Maid Park, and it turned into a big first inning that put the Rangers in position for one of their most clutch wins of the year.

There were some close calls, but the Rangers never relinquished the lead, holding on for a 5-4 win at Minute Maid Park to take a commanding 2-0 advantage in the American League Championship Series.

The Rangers are just the sixth team to win each of their first seven games in a single postseason , just one victory short of the 2014 Royals for the longest unbeaten streak in a postseason. They have trailed at the end of only one full inning this postseason.

Sarting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi who made it through six innings against the Astros, allowing just three runs and preventing them from delivering a big blow. His defining moment came in the fifth inning, when he allowed back-to-back singles to lead off the frame and an error by Josh Jung loaded the bases with no outs.

But “Big Game Nate” came through once again, striking out Yainer Diaz and Jose Altuve before getting Alex Bregman to ground out to end the threat.

Kyle Schwarber crushed a first-pitch fastball from D-backs starter Zac Gallen for a leadoff home run in the first inning of Monday night’s 5-3 victory over Arizona in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. I

Two batters after Schwarber did his damage, Bryce Harper belted a home run to right-center field to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.

One inning later, Nick Castellanos hit an opposite-field home run to give the Phils a 3-0 lead.

Harper celebrated his 31st birthday on Monday with his third homer in three games.

Castellanos has homered five times in his past three games, joining Reggie Jackson (1977 World Series) as the only two players with five homers in a three-game span in a single postseason.

Phillies ace Zack Wheelerallowed two runs on three hits in six innings, while the bullpen allowed one unearned run over three innings to save it. The Phils have trailed only two full innings in their first seven postseason games, the second fewest for any team in a single postseason, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. They have outhomered the opposition by 12 homers (16-4), which is the best home run differential in any seven-game span in any single postseason.

Game two is Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

Wisconsin quarterback Tanner Mordecai is out indefinitely after breaking his throwing hand in a loss to Iowa on Saturday.

Badgers coach Luke Fickell confirmed Monday that Mordecai had undergone surgery a day earlier. Fickell didn’t set a timetable for the sixth-year senior’s possible return.

ESPN first reported the severity of Mordecai’s injury.

As Mordecai was attempting a pass late in the second quarter Saturday, his right hand hit the helmet of Iowa linebacker Jay Higgins on his follow through. He stayed in for one more play and left the game after realizing he couldn’t grip the ball properly

Braedyn Locke was Wisconsin’s quarterback for the remainder of the Badgers’ 15-6 loss. Wisconsin trailed 7-0 at the time of Mordecai’s injury.

Mordecai had completed 63.7% of his passes for 1,127 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions this season. He also had rushed for 161 yards and four touchdowns.

He transferred to Wisconsin after throwing for 3,500 yards each of the last two seasons at SMU. His 72 touchdowns passes at SMU set the program’s career record. He had enrolled at SMU after spending three seasons as a backup quarterback at Oklahoma.

He has completed 66.3% of his career pass attempts for 8,918 yards and 79 touchdowns with 26 interceptions.

Locke, a Mississippi State transfer, had attempted just one career pass before Saturday. He went 15 of 30 for 122 yards with no touchdowns and an interception against Iowa.

This represents the Wisconsin offense’s second major injury of the season. Running back Chez Mellusi hasn’t played since getting carted off the field with a leg injury in a 38-17 victory at Purdue on Sept. 22. Mellusi isn’t expected to return this season.

The Kansas Jayhawks were the clear No. 1 pick in the AP Top 25 preseason men’s basketball poll released Monday, earning 46 of 63 first-place votes to easily outdistance No. 2 Duke and No. 3 Purdue. It’s the third time since Self’s arrival in Lawrence in 2003 that his team will start the season on top but the first time since the 2018-19 season.

Duke picked up 11 first-place votes to land at No. 2 in Jon Scheyer’s second season.
