10/17/23 FDL County Sheriff’s K9 Iro Improving

17 October 2023 News

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s K9 wounded during a shooting incident in Fond du Lac Saturday is improving at a veterinary hospital. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt provided an update last night on Iro’s condition. The Sheriff says Iro is tired but he’s awake, visually tracks his handler around the room, and remains in stable condition with no major setbacks. The dog even got a ride outside of his hospital bed for a little fresh air for a few minutes. Last night he lifted his head when he spotted his favorite toy, a tennis ball. Sheriff Waldschmidt says the support has been tremendous. Iro was wounded during a gunfire exchange between a Sheriff’s deputy and a suspect in a domestic incident. The suspect was in a vehicle at the time and was wounded during the exchange, he died at the scene. No one else was injured. The deputy involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave while the shooting is being investigated. (Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photos).
