The Dodgers stretched their winning streak to 11 games with a 1-0 victory over the Brewers Thursday night.
Milwaukee was not able to help Corbin Burnes, who gave up no runs through seven innings.
Burnes certainly did his part. He surrendered a Mookie Betts single and a Freddie Freeman walk to start the series finale with a relatively shaky, 21-pitch first, then delivered seven dominant innings on 98 pitches. He yielded two hits (both singles) and two walks while striking out nine.
Austin Barnes, who has been struggling at the plate all season, hit a solo homer off Joel Payamps (4-3), his first of the season, to provide the games only run.
Barnes’ homer was enough to complete the sweep. During the three-game series against the Brewers, which resulted in the team’s third consecutive sweep, the Dodgers’ starters clearly led the way.
The Dodgers Lance Lynn pitched seven scoreless innings. The biggest threat against him came in the sixth when the Brewers had runners at the corners with nobody out for the middle of the order. Lynn, however, showed his veteran ability to not panic in those situations.
Lynn got William Contreras to hit a comebacker, allowing him to get Tyrone Taylor caught in a rundown between third and home plate for the first out of the inning. He got Carlos Santana to line out to Freddie Freeman, who was positioned perfectly down the first-base line. Lynn then induced a Sal Frelick popout to shortstop to end the threat.
After his seven-inning gem, Lynn has enjoyed a resurgence since joining the Dodgers from the White Sox. The veteran right-hander is 4-0 with a 1.44 ERA in four starts and over 25 innings of work.
Caleb Ferguson (7-3) picked up the win. Evan Phillips picked up the save.
The Brewers managed five hits while the Dodgers had four.
The Dodgers improved their record in August to 15-1.
The Brewers are in Texas tonight to take on the Rangers. Brandon Woodruff (2-1, 1.99 ERA) is on the mound for Milwaukee against Rangers left-hander Andrew Heaney (9-6, 4.17 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 CDT.
Elsewhere in the NL Central the Mets beat the Cardinals 4-2. The Cubs and the Reds were off Milwaukee leads Chicago and Cincinnati by two games in the division.
In the Midwest League Thursday Cedar Rapids won at home over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-2. The two teams square off tonight with the first pitch at 6:35.
The Packers and the Patriots held their second joint practice on Thursday in preparation for Saturday night’s game at Lambeau Field.
There was some big differences between the first and second. Starting with the chipyness, shoving and maybe could call it “fighting”. Something we did not see any of during Wednesday’s joint session.
It happened almost immediately as the two teams took the field together and on multiple occasions. Players on both sides were asked to leave the practice.
“Thought it was outstanding, thought it was a great day of work,” Head coach Matt LaFleur said prior to Thursday’s practice.
On Thursday the same can not be said for Jordan Love and the first team offense. Under 50% completion percentage and multiple interceptions. Really both sides of the football struggled for the Packers.
“Just think it’s one of those.. it’s the dog days of camp. Not making an excuse for a mistake or anything like that but it can get frustrating. That’s why we have this before.. 25 days before our first game?
2nd year wide receiver Christian Watson did not see a significant difference in how they were game planned against comparatively in this final joint practice.
“It was pretty similar but definitely some adjustments made. We were in some different situations as well so it could have just been just the situations we were in but yea it looked similar,” Watson said.

The high school football season kicked off Thursday night and there were some good non-conference games.
Neenah beat De Pere 49-37 in the first game at new Rocket Stadium Also, Appleton North beat Green Bay Southwest 45-7, Kaukauna defeated Ashwaubenon 42-14 and Middleton beat Bay Port 35-29.
