STUDENT ENROLLMENT EXPECTED TO DECREASE SLIGHTLY IN RIPON

The official enrollment count won’t be taken until the third Friday in September, but Ripon Area School District Business Manager Jonah Adams is anticipating a slight decrease in student enrollment numbers. He says they will see a small increase in their kindergarten or 4K and 5K classes. He says they will have 11 additional 5K students and a little bit less than that in their 4K program. The 4K program is expanding to full-time four days a week during the upcoming school year.  Adams says overall they will be down less than 30 students because they graduated a senior class with larger numbers during the spring. Adams says typically they see more students in the upper grade levels.

RIPON PUBLIC LIBRARY EXTERIOR PLANNING

The Ripon Public Library is currently engaged in a capital campaign to raise $800,000 for interior improvements to the library, but once that phase is complete, they will focus on exterior improvements. Mandy Kimes is serving on a committee for the Ripon Public Library’s Love My Library Business Partnership program. That program is involved in raising funds for interior improvements. But she says the library also has plans for improvements outside the library where they also offer programs including story time for kids. She says they will be working on the area around Silver Creek. Kimes says they would like to put in things like a rock-climbing wall and a small amphitheater-like structure. She says the library could be a showstopper for Ripon and could encourage more families to live and work in the city. For more information on the Love My Library campaign contact Library Director Desiree Bongers at 920-748-6160.

OPERATION WE LOVE OUR TROOPS

State Assembly Republicans got together at the end of last month and packed care packages for the Wisconsin men and women serving in the military overseas. It’s known as Operation We Love Our Troops. State Representative Jon Plumer says it is something they do each session. They purchase items for the boxes and get together in the North Hearing Room at the State Capitol to pack the boxes. The state lawmaker from Lodi says it is a humbling experience. Plumer says they pack the boxes with items the military may not provide like hygiene items and treats. One of the things they included in these care packages were letters from 4th grade students thanking the troops for their service. The packages are expected to go out shortly.
