Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue responded to a report of smoke in the basement and smoke detectors sounding at Boda’s Restaurant Friday evening. When fire crews arrived at the restaurant at 277 South Pioneer Road, they encountered light smoke in the basement. The fire was found in the mechanical room. Due to the door being closed to the room, the fire self-extinguished because of oxygen deprivation. The restaurant was not occupied at the time. A neighbor was outside the building watering flowers and he heard the smoke detectors sounding. He called the owner who arrived and called 911 when smoke was showing. Battalion Chief Ben Stephany credited the neighbor’s quick actions saying it created a much better outcome. The fire is believed to have started from a malfunctioning fan that was in the room to keep the area dry.
