7/29/23 Two Renowned Artists Featured at Town Square Lobby Gallery in August

29 July 2023 News

GREEN LAKE, WI— Artwork from award-winning artists Pat Dobrinska and Lester Schwartz are on display in the Town Square lobby gallery throughout the month of August. The lobby is free to visit and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3p.m., and during the Green Lake Fine Art Show on Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Aug 13 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m..

“Typically the gallery features one artist each month, but August is special because the Art Show will draw hundreds of extra visitors through our doors,” said Executive Director Kris Anderson. “We want to honor and showcase the talents of two celebrated artists from our community.”

Dobrinska lives in the rural Green Lake area, where she studies and paints a variety of landscapes, wildlife, and portraits. A painter for most of her life, she has also taught painting techniques to adults for over 35 years. Dobrinks’s work has been shown at colleges, studios, and galleries across the country and her paintings appear in collections around the world.

In recent years, Dobrinska illustrated three children’s books authored by Kelly Condon, titled “I Love You…Unconditionally” (2015), “Together, We Are Family” (2016), and “Home is Forever” (2018).

Schwartz (1912-2006) was a world-renowned artist who served as artist-in-residence at Ripon College from 1944 to 1977. During his later years, he transformed his Green Lake farm into a sculpture garden and continued to produce paintings, drawings, and smaller sculptures that integrated elements of fantasy, history, and everyday life. Two of Schwartz’s sculptures were donated to Town Square and have permanent homes in the former courthouse building’s landscaping.

For those interested in learning more about Schwartz’s life and work, his daughter, Tanya Schwartz Roeper, will host a presentation titled “Lester O. Schwartz: A Reflection” on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. in Town Square’s Club Room. The event is free and open to the public. Guests are asked to register at tinyurl.com/LOSchwartz.

Dobrinska and Schwartz will also be honored as part of the Green Lake Fine Art Show, which celebrates 50 years as it moves to its new home on the Town Square campus on August 12 and 13. The juried event includes two people’s choice awards: the Pat Dobrinksa Award for Still Life and Lester Schwartz Award for Abstract.

As part of this month’s celebration of art, children have an opportunity to unleash their inner artist during Town Square’s first ever Kids Art Camp August 7-10. Geared toward ages 10-14, students will be guided and inspired to create nature art, abstract painting, printmaking, and acrylic flow art. Registration is limited and required by Monday, July 31.
