CHARGING DECISIONS

Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says due to the serious circumstances surrounding the drug overdose death of an 18-year-old Ripon man all five people charged in connection with his death were charged as adults. Four of the five were charged with first degree reckless homicide including a 15-year-old. The oldest was 21 and three other suspects were 17 years old. Wallner says it is up to the discretion of the County’s District Attorney whether to charge a person as a juvenile or adult. He says in this case given its circumstances and the charge of first degree reckless homicide the youngest was also charged as an adult. When the victim was overdosing on April 7th he was taken out of a home and left on a sidewalk. A Percocet pill he had purchased contained the deadly drug Fentanyl.

NEW FDL COUNTY FLAG

During the Fond du Lac County Board meeting this past week the design for the new county flag was revealed. County Executive Sam Kaufman says the original flag designed in the 1960’s was outdated so when he came into office he talked with Recruitment and Promotional Strategist Stephanie Dahlke about a contest to design a new flag. He says quite a few people submitted designs and they narrowed it down to three finalists revealing the winner last Tuesday night.  The flag has a blue background with a setting sun and incorporates images of manufacturing, agriculture, a lighthouse, and a fisherman. The winning design was submitted by Sara Waldschmidt who is Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt’s wife.  She has experience in Arts and Graphic Design. Kaufman says next month the County Board will adopt the flag and will honor Sara. He says in addition to flying the new flag at county buildings the design will be used on bumper stickers, shirts, and other promotional items for the county.
