7/23/23 Plane Crash in the Town of Waupun
23 July 2023 News
Two Texas men headed for EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh survived an emergency landing in a marsh near State Highway 49 and Hemp Road in Fond du Lac County’s Town of Waupun Saturday night. The County Dispatch Center took a call shortly before 8 pm and shortly after the pilot of the plane called to provide an updated location. Due to the area where the plane crashed Alto, Brandon, and Waupun Fire Departments used UTV’s to locate the plane and were able to rescue the two men. A wing of the single engine plane was damaged, and the 76-year-old pilot suffered a possible shoulder injury. The copilot was a 71-year-old man. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s investigators were told the two had left an airport in Cedar Rapids, Iowa headed for EAA and were about 10 minutes away from their destination when the engine suddenly lost power. That forced the pilot to make an emergency landing in a marshy area. The crash is still under investigation. (Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photos from Fond du Lac Police Department drone).
