THREE DISPLACED BY FDL FIRE

Three people were displaced by an apartment fire in Fond du Lac early Monday morning. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue officials say a caller reported a small fire in the bathroom exhaust fan the night before. The fire spread in the attic and walls of the apartment building. Firefighters found the fire burning inside the structure and pulled the fire alarm to get everyone to evacuate the building. The blaze was brought under control in about 20 minutes. Three tenants in two apartments affected by the fire had to find other lodgings. The American Red Cross is helping them. No injuries were reported.

FDL COUNTY SHERIFF AT THE FAIR

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says the Sheriff’s Department will have a presence at the County Fair this week. Although the Fairgrounds are located in the City of Fond du Lac, the Sheriff’s Office has jurisdiction over the Fairgrounds. He says there are a couple of things you can usually depend upon during the Fair and they are hot weather and the possibility of storms. He says the Sheriff’s Command Post will be there for the 172nd Fond du Lac County Fair and they will have some goodies and handouts for the kids. Waldschmidt says he and his deputies enjoy the Fair just like everyone else. The motto of this year’s Fair is “Just Another Day in Fairadise.” The Fair runs Wednesday through Sunday but there are some activities today including Professional Bull Riding and Barrel racing and fireworks after.

INFLATION RATES SHOWS SIGNS OF SLOWING

The annual inflation rate for the 12 months ending last month is at 3 percent and has shown some signs of slowing, but Congressman Glenn Grothman says prices for everyday items remain high and unaffordable for a lot of people. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says a truer indicator is whether folks can afford the interest rates on big ticket items like a home mortgage or a vehicle purchase. He says if you’re going to live the American Dream you want to own a house and car, but even the cost of a small ranch-style home is through the roof. He blames overspending by the Biden Administration which he says flooded the economy with all those extra dollars. Last month’s inflation rate of 3 percent was the lowest level in 2 years, but still above the Federal Reserve’s target of 2 percent inflation.

SEVERE HEADACHES MAY BE AN INDICATION OF SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS

A physical therapist with SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital says sometimes they can make suggestions or do therapy that relieves headaches, but sometimes those headaches are a sign of something more serious. Jesse Schulz says if the pain is severe or more intense than headaches you’ve had in the past you will want to have your physician check that out.  He points out if there are other symptoms you don’t normally experience with a headache such as dizziness, visual changes, weakness, a feeling of clumsiness, and mentally you feel off; again you should see your physician.  Schulz says some headaches can be brought on by other things some physical which a physical therapist can do something to help relieve.
