GOOD NEWS FOR RIPON

It is a pass-through grant to Knuth to assist in completion of their expansion downtown. He thanked Dave Knuth and Ripon Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon for their assistance and cooperation in applying for the grant. Sonntag also told the Council that the Douglas Street lot in the Business Park has been sold to FLASH Trucking in Green Lake. Plans are being finalized on their $2 million plus transloading rail facility and construction will begin soon. Sonntag says the project started with communications and meetings with FLASH in May of last year.

STATE REPRESENTATIVE PLUMER ON SHARED REVENUE LEGISLATION

The State Assembly passed historic legislation Wednesday during a busy floor session. State Representative Jon Plumer says, “After months of negotiation, we delivered wins for local communities, families, law enforcement, and small businesses all over the state.” The state lawmaker from Lodi says he’s proud of what was accomplished with the shared revenue deal. Among the provisions in the legislation communities will receive a minimum 20 percent increase in their shared revenue. It also permanently repeals the personal property tax, which helps small businesses. It will also prevent communities from defunding their police.

TWO LONGTIME FDL COUNTY COMMITTEES DISSOLVED

The Fond du Lac County Board this week approved a pair of resolutions eliminating two long-time committees. Through that action the Natural Beauty Council and Gottfried Prairie & Arboretum Advisory Committee were eliminated. County Executive Sam Kaufman says they’ve had few nominations for the Natural Beauty Council Awards the past few years which go to beautifully landscaped houses, farms, historic properties, etc. He says if a group like a Master Gardner’s group was interested in taking over the program the county would be willing to supply small funding for the effort. As for the Gottfried Committee, Kaufman says it was initially put together to develop the prairie and arboretum. He says the county’s parks department and the UW campus can oversee arboretum efforts and he suggested they form a non-profit friends group which would benefit them when they are trying to raise funds for what they do.
