The pedestrian was struck at the intersection of South Portland Street and East 1st Street early in the morning on April 17th of 2022. The victim suffered numerous bruises and road rash. FELONY LANE GANG
Washington County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men Saturday from Fort Lauderdale, Florida who may have ties to a nationwide crime ring. In particular the two are suspected of breaking into numerous cars at a park in the Town of Addison. They also may have been involved in similar thefts at a church in Dodge County earlier in the day. The two men are also suspected of committing similar thefts in Denver, Colorado two days before. They had multiple credit cards and IDs belonging to victims across the nation. A deputy pulled their vehicle over because of an illegal window tint. The two men are suspected of having ties to an organized crime gang out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida known as the “Felony Lane Gang.” It is named for their frequent use of the farthest bank lane in the drive-through as a mechanism to avoid detection. The gang is well-organized committing “smash and grab” thefts from parked cars. Their crimes include theft, fraudulent financial transactions, and identity theft.

CLICK IT OR TICKET SUCCESS
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office joined agencies across Wisconsin and the nation to raise awareness about seat belt safety during the annual Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign. It ran from May 22nd through June 4th, during which officers issued 8 citations for seat belt violations. It also provided an opportunity to educate drivers and passengers of the important safety message. Sheriff’s Captain Bill Tadych says the campaign was a success. He says, “Through our enforcement efforts, we helped keep community members safe and reminded drivers of the importance of buckling up.” He notes the goal was not about issuing tickets, but about reminding people of the importance of the simple action that can save a life. The campaign coincided with the Memorial Day holiday.
SPEAKERS AT RIPON COMMON COUNCIL MEETING VOICE CONCERNS OVER LITTLE WHITE SCHOOLHOUSE MOVE
Four speakers addressed the Ripon Common Council Tuesday night about the Historic Preservation Commission’s handling of the Little White Schoolhouse move. All four had spoken previously at the Commission’s meeting a week ago. Due to the Council’s busy agenda speakers were limited to a couple of minutes apiece during the public comment section of the meeting and three of the speakers ran out of time. Those opposed to the move talked about the lack of a certificate of appropriateness being issued by the Commission for the move. But one of the speakers quoted from his correspondence with City Administrator Adam Sonntag in which Sonntag said the move didn’t violate any city ordinance, a certificate was not required just a general review. Speakers were concerned about the move jeopardizing Federal and State Historical designations.

FARM CDL BILL
A bill State Representative Jon Plumer co-authored would bring the state into alignment with Federal standards and allows farm CDL holders up to 210 days instead of the current 180. The state lawmaker from Lodi says during a hearing in the Assembly’s Transportation Committee farm groups testified in favor of it. It would extend not only the planting season but the harvest season in the fall. He says these license holders are only using their licenses to haul goods from harvest to plants to be processed. Plumer says the bill seemed to have bipartisan support and only supports the state’s agricultural industry which is estimated to have a $104.8 billion economic impact on the state. The state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says food processing activity contributes $82.7 billion to industrial sales.
DISASTER VOLUNTEER RECEPTION CENTER
Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Amy Haase says having people lined up as volunteers to man Disaster Volunteer Reception Centers during an actual disaster is a real plus. Fond du Lac County United Way Executive Director Amber Kilawee would coordinate the centers. Haase says those who volunteer would get prior training and would be ready to be pressed into service. She says it would only take a call to Kilawee to set a center into motion. Haase says during an actual emergency things are fluid and she has a number of responsibilities to take care of that she wouldn’t be able to focus on without the help of those volunteers and the Disaster Volunteer Reception Centers. Those who might be interested in the volunteer opportunity are encouraged to visit the Fondy Volunteers.org website.
