MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN WINNEBAGO COUNTY
A 33-year-old Berlin woman was injured in a motorcycle accident in Winnebago County Friday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials say it happened about 1:30 pm at County Highway E and Porter Road. She lost control trying to go around a curve and crashed. She suffered neck injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A ThedaStar helicopter flew her to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. No one else was involved in the accident.
BRANDON POLICING ON FDL COUNTY BOARD AGENDA
The Fond du Lac County Board of Supervisors tonight will consider approving a resolution that will allow the county to enter an agreement with the Village of Brandon for police services. It would create one full-time position of patrol deputy for the Sheriff’s Office to provide those law enforcement services. Brandon-Fairwater Chief Gary Durkee retired on June 2nd. The Village of Fairwater is still considering what it wants to do about its police services. The board will also consider a yearly increase of $100 over three years for referral autopsies performed by the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office. It would become effective on January 1st. The Fond du Lac County Board meets at 6 pm tonight in the legislative chambers of the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac.
CITY OF BERLIN ASKS RESIDENTS TO KEEP A LID ON IT
The City of Berlin Utilities Department is notifying residents about maintenance work by leaving door hangars on residences. The department is jetting sewers over the next few weeks and the pressure may push some water up in resident’s toilets. Residents are being asked to close their toilets’ lid and if it is a light lid, to place something with a little weight on it so there is no water to possibly clean up. Residents are also asked to share the information with their neighbors.
BASD SUPERINTENDENT MARKS ONE YEAR WITH DISTRICT
Berlin Area School District Superintendent Emmett Durtschi is celebrating his first anniversary with the school district this month. He says it was an eventful year and part of it was spent becoming acquainted with the community, but now there are so many people he recognizes when he is out at different events. He feels they have a number of pluses including their students, staff and families. He says like all school districts they also have some challenges including finances, truancy, and a growing concern shared across the country mental health. Durtschi also got involved in the community running for a spot on the Berlin Common Council, he was unopposed for the seat and now serves on the Council as well.
CHILDREN’S FAIR SATURDAY IN RIPON
The Ripon Noon Kiwanis with Ripon Public Library support will have their annual Children’s Fair at the Ripon High School Saturday from 9 am to Noon. Kiwanis Past President Jeffrey Dodson says they enjoy staging the event each year for kids. The free event will have a caricature artist, musical entertainer “Mr. Pickles,” mini golf, Bouncy House, Preschool Romper Room, yard games and more. Children and families can also check out a Ripon Police Squad, Fire Truck, and ambulance. Information stations will be set up with information on a variety of children and family services. There is no cost to attend and there will be prizes and giveaways.

BREAKFAST ON THE FARM DETAILS
Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Agri-Business Council will host the 34th annual Breakfast on the Farm on Sunday, June 25th from 8 am to Noon at Forest Ridge Holsteins in Eden, Wisconsin. The large country-style breakfast will include eggs with ham and cheese, pork sausage, pancakes, applesauce, coffee, and milk served in the Lakeview Electric Contractors Food Tent. Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and up, $8 for those 6 to12 years of age, and children 5 and under get in free. Ice cream cups from UW-Platteville Pioneer Sweets will also be available for $2 a cup and are available in three flavors: Simply Strawberry, Holstein Swirl, and Forest Ridge Mint. Tickets are available at the Envision offices in Fond du Lac and the Envision website under events, Dotyville Hardware and many local banks. Other activities include live music by Gary Cross, a local cheese tasting tent, Alliant Energy Kiddie Tractor Pull, a petting zoo, an educational area, and much more. Free parking and shuttle service will be available from Baker Cheese in St. Cloud or Aurora Health Center in Fond du Lac. Handicap parking only will be available on the farm.

Wisconsin’s 75th Alice in Dairyland Taylor Schaefer has shared a number of recipes over her past year as Alice while she was promoting the state’s Agriculture. Because she has spent most of that year on the road she uses a few recipes for the person on the go like Charcuterie Cups to Go. She says another favorite is Blueberry-Peach Mascarpone Icebox Cake. You can find the recipes at Wisconsin Cheese.com. Taylor’s reign as Alice comes to an end on the Fourth of July. The 76th Alice in Dairyland Ashley Hagenow of Poynette in Columbia County takes over after that. Taylor says they will spend some time together over the last two weeks of her reign to ease Ashley through the transition.

OSHKOSH FATHER AND SON WIN MERCURY NATIONAL WALLEYE TOURNAMENT
A father and son team from Oshkosh won the 45th annual Mercury National Walleye Tournament on Lake Winnebago this past weekend. Joe and Joseph Robl hauled in 10 walleyes weighing a total of 29 pounds. They won a prize package that included a LUND fishing boat, Mercury Marine 150 horsepower outboard, a trolling motor, set of accessories, and $5,000 in cash. Joe Robl credits the team’s win to cooler temperatures, along with some wind and rain on Sunday. He says, “It’s awesome-I’ve been trying to win this one for quite a while, probably 35 years. When it gets nasty, I love fishing.” Nearly 600 anglers competed for the top prize package. The tournament is part of Walleye Weekend in Fond du Lac which draws about 50,000 people during the three-day festival.
