From Wayne Mausser

Joey Wiemer homered twice, Willy Adames also went deep in his return from the concussion list and Corbin Burnes pitched eight shutout innings in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 10-2 blowout of the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.

Wiemer went 4 for 4 with a pair of two-run shots, a double and a career-high five RBIs. This marked the first time the rookie center fielder had more than two hits in a game.

During his eight-game hitting streak, Wiemer has gone 13 of 27 to improve his batting average from .195 to .231. He homered in the third inning off Dean Kremer and in the seventh against Bruce Zimmermann. Wiemer got a curtain call after the second homer, which increased his season total to eight. He then made a sliding catch in center to start the top of the eighth.

Adames put the Brewers ahead for good by homering in the first inning – a 400-foot shot over the center-field wall. Adames followed that up with a third-inning double in his first game since May 26, when he got hit in the head by a line drive from teammate Brian Anderson while standing behind the railing on the dugout steps.

Wiemer and Adames provided more than enough support for Burnes, who continued his recent surge by striking out nine while allowing two hits and no walks.

In his last three starts, the 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner has given up eight hits and four runs over 21 innings. Burnes (5-4) has 24 strikeouts and seven walks during that stretch.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was ejected from the game when he argued with plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt after Ryan O’Hearn struck out looking in the top of the fifth inning.

Baltimore avoided the shutout by scoring two runs off Bennett Sousa in the ninth. Austin Hays had an RBI single during that inning.

The Brewers took a 6-0 lead in the first five innings against Kremer, who struck out five and walked none but allowed nine hits.

The six runs Kremer (6-3) allowed in his five-inning stint matched the total he had given up in the three starts leading up to this one.

RHP Kyle Bradish (2-2, 4.13) starts for the Orioles and RHP Colin Rea (3-3, 4.94) pitches for the Brewers as this three-game series concludes Thursday afternoon.  First pitch is at 1:10.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Wednesday Oakland beat Pittsburgh 9-5, the Reds over the Dodgers 8-6, the Cardinals shutout the Rangers 1-0 and the Angels beat the Cubs 6-2.  The Brewers lead the Pirates by 1 ½ games in the division.

In the Midwest League Wednesday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won at West Michigan 9-4.  The T-Rats are now 20-32.  The teams meet again tonight with the first pitch at 5:35.

In the Northwood’s League Wednesday the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders edged the Green Bay Rockers 5-4 at Neuroscience Field in Appleton in the second annual I-41 showdown.  The Dock Spiders are back in action tonight in Rockford for game one of a two game set with the Rockford Rivets. First pitch is slated for 6:35 P.M.

Jamal  Murray and Nikola Jokic rebounded from their first NBA Finals loss by making history. In their best and most important game as teammates, Jokic and Murray became the first duo to record 30-point triple-doubles, helping Denver rout the Miami Heat 109-94 to take a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals.

Murray set the tone before finishing with 34 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. Jokic delivered a stat line never seen before in NBA Finals history with 32 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists. It was his eighth triple-double in his past 11 postseason games.

Murray hit eight of his first 13 shots and had 20 points in the first half.

Jokic helped break Game 3 open in the third with 12 points and six rebounds as Denver used a 29-15 run to build an 82-63 lead just before the end of the quarter.

Jimmy Butler led the Heat with 28 points.  Game four is Friday night in Miami.

The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, announced six of the team’s 24 home games for the 2023-24 season.
