GREEN LAKE, WI,— Town Square Community Center invites children ages 10 to 14 to participate in a new Art Camp leading up to the 50th anniversary of the Green Lake Fine Art Show in August.
The Kids Art Camp is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 7 through Thursday, Aug. 10. The four days will be filled with hands-on creative projects including nature art, abstract painting, printmaking, and acrylic flow art.
“This is a chance for kids to come together, unplug, and let imaginations fly free,” said Program Coordinator Zoe Niemuth. “Our expert instructors will guide them through each process, providing encouragement and inspiration along the way.”
Tickets are $30 per student and available for purchase online at GreenLakeTownSquare.org. The price includes the cost of art supplies. Registration is limited to 12 campers.
Following the camp, kids can rub elbows with real, working artists at the Green Lake Fine Art Show on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the 50th anniversary of the event – revered as one of the Midwest’s most esteemed art shows – and the first year it will be held on the Town Square lawn in downtown Green Lake.
Local artist Jennifer Aither and Town Square co-founder Fran Hill are co-chairing the event, which features over 50 artists and craftspeople from around the country as well as live music, food, and refreshments. Booths will be filled with a vast selection of art including oil paintings, sculptures, watercolors, ceramics, photography, wood, glass, and fine jewelry.
“It’s an exciting challenge for Town Square to take the reins in planning and hosting the Fine Art Show,” said Hill. “We can’t wait to welcome folks to the heart of downtown to mix and mingle with talented artists, listen to live music, and enjoy the inspiring backdrop of Green Lake.”
The live music includes Dan Braaksma from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Steve Yeomans from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. A jazz ensemble featuring vocalist Erin Krebs will perform at Town Square Tap from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
“Town Square Tap will be open throughout the weekend, providing a place to sit down and enjoy a beer or glass of wine indoors or on the patio overlooking Mill Pond,” added Hill. Hot steak sandwiches, brats and hot dogs will be available to purchase from Green Lake Rotary.
Town Square stated it has space for a limited number of additional artists interested in participating in the show. To apply, download the artist application form at GreenLakeTownSquare.org/greenlakeartshow.
