State Track and Field (Boys)
Winneconne’s Ayden Hart won the 110-meter hurdles in Division 2, then came back later to win the 300 hurdles at the WIAA state track and field championships.
Hart finished in 14.79 seconds in the 110 hurdles to edge Cavan Dobberstein of Fox Valley Lutheran, who was second in 14.81 seconds. He finished the 300 hurdles in 38.97 seconds to beat Jack Erickson of Belleville/New Glarus, who finished in 39.88 seconds.
Hart also ran with Cody McLeod, Vinny Duncan and Sam Waech on Winneconne’s 1,600 relay team that finished second in 3:21.71. Shorewood took first in 3:21.11.
Waupun senior Jacob Abel won the Division 2 long jump title Friday at the WIAA state track and field championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Abel tied the Division 2 state record of 23 feet, 8.75 inches on his second attempt Friday, a mark held by Cody Zaeske of East Troy since 2012. Then on his second attempt in the finals, Abel jumped 24-3.25 to smash the record and secure the state title.
Kyle Wisniewski of New London finished second at 22-11.75.
Abel’s state title is the third in school history for Waupun and the first since Dave Heebner won the 110-meter hurdles in 1993. Harold Neeval won the hammer throw in 1910.
Senior Nolan Baudry of St. Mary’s Springs finished third in the shot put in Division 3 with a toss of 52-0.5. Aiden Janke of Athens won the event with a 55-2.75 toss.
The Winneconne boys team of Beau Gilbert, Grant Wenzelow, Reid Cross and Sam Waech took fifth place in the 3,200 relay in Division 2 in 8:05.37. … Sophie Yetter of Winneconne finished sixth in the 1,600 in 5:03.16. She also placed fifth in the 800 in 2:17.31. … Michielah Borchardt of Waupun was fourth in the discus in Division 2 with a throw of 119-11 and Aubree Koenings of Campbellsport was fifth in 119-9. … Kaiden Schmitz of Winnebago Lutheran placed fifth in the Division 3 shot put with a toss of 50-10.25.
Girls Results
The Lourdes Academy girls 3,200 relay team won the Division 3 title.
The team of Molly Moore, Dasha Averkamp, Erin Moore and Mackenzie Stelter finished in a school-record time of 9:34.30. Boscobel was second in 9:39.62.
Laconia’s team of Marissa Johnson, Galena Everson, Allison Wright and Molly Duel finished fourth in 9:43.47.
Laconia’s senior Mattie Isaac won the Division 3 state title in the shot put on her last toss.
Isaac threw 39 feet, 7.75 seconds to edge Paige Kurlinski of Ozaukee, who threw 39-7.25. Kurlinski’s best throw came on her last attempt in the finals, then Isaac topped it on her final attempt.
Molly Duel of Laconia finished third in the 1,600 in Division 3. She finished in 4:59.88.
Duel, a sophomore, was in third at the halfway point and in fourth with one lap to go, just a few seconds behind winner Autumn Michalski of Chequamegon.
