After having Monday off the Brewers are back in action tonight at Toronto playing the Blue Jays. Milwaukee sends right-hander Adrian Houser (1-0, 2.25 ERA) to the mound against Toronto left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (5-2, 4.56). First pitch is at 6:07 CDT.
In the NL Central Monday the Royals shutout the Cardinals 7-0, the Cubs nipped the Rays 1-0 and the Giants pounded the Pirates 14-4. The Brewers lead the Pirates by two games in the division with the Reds four games out, the Cubs five and the Cardinals 5 ½ back.
Luke Voit was designated for assignment on Monday by the Milwaukee Brewers, who owe the former home run champion a little more than $1.3 million for the remainder his of contract.
The 32-year old first-baseman hit .221 with a .284 on-base percentage, .265 slugging percentage, zero homers and four RBIs in 22 games. He had just three extra-base hits, all doubles, in 74 plate appearances.`
Voit hadn’t played for the Brewers since May 13. He went on the injured list two days later with a neck issue and had been hitting .259 with a .444 on-base percentage, one homer and eight RBIs in eight games during a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Nashville.
Voit entered this year having homered 20 or more times in three of his last four seasons, including a major league-leading 22 for the New York Yankees during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season
He batted .226 with a .308 on-base percentage, 22 homers and 69 RBIs in 135 games with the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals last season. After earning $5.45 million last year, he agreed to a minor league contract with the Brewers and opted out of before signing a $2 million, one-year deal just before the start of the season.
Voit is owed $1,322,581 for the remainder of this season. The Brewers have seven days to trade him, release him or assign him outright to the minors if he agrees to accept it.
In another move Monday, the Brewers assigned left-handed pitcher Álex Claudio outright to Nashville after he cleared waivers.
There were no games Monday in the Midwest League. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are back in action tonight, hosting Peoria. First pitch is at 6:40.
The Northwoods league schedule got started on the Memorial Day Monday with the season opener featuring NE Wisconsin’s two local franchises going up against one another. The Green Bay Rockers played the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders at Herr-Baker Field in Fond du Lac.
Rockers jumped out on top 1-0 after the 1st than added five more runs in the 3rd inning fueled by multiple Dock Spiders errors.
Green Bay jumped out to a 10-2 advantage after their half of the 6th.
The Dock Spiders rallied for 5 runs in the 6th inning that trimmed the deficit to just 10-7 than three more in the bottom of the 9th to tie it up and send it to extra innings on opening day 10-10.
The Rockers scored two in the 11th inning and came away with a 12-10 victory.
The two teams will make their way up Highway 41 to meet again Tuesday night at Capital Park for Green Bay’s home opener set for 6:35pm.
Jimmy Butler scored 28 points and Caleb Martin had 26 points and 10 rebounds in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals on Monday night to help the Miami Heat beat the Celtics 103-84 and turn back Boston’s attempt at an unprecedented comeback.
The Heat recovered after blowing a 3-0 lead in the series and advanced to the NBA Finals for the second time in four seasons. They will face the Western Conference champion Nuggets, with Game 1 in Denver on Thursday night.
Bam Adebayo scored 12 points with 10 rebounds for Miami, which is the first No. 8 seed to play for a championship since the 1999 New York Knicks. Top-seeded Denver has been waiting since sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers on May 22.

Game 6 hero Derrick White scored 18 for Boston, which was hoping to become the first NBA team ever to advance after falling behind 0-3 in a best-of-seven series. Jaylen Brown scored 19 with eight rebounds but went 1 for 9 from 3-point range.
Jayson Tatum, who scored a Game 7 record 51 points against Philadelphia in the conference semis, had 14 points with 11 rebounds after turning his ankle on the first play of the game and limping through 42 minutes.
Josepf Newgarden won the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday after several red flags were pulled out at near the end of the race. Here are the final results.

Steve Stricker squeezed daughter and temporary caddie Izzi just a little harder after finishing a comeback and winning the Senior PGA Championship.
Now a six-time senior major winner, Stricker shared this one with a high school golf champion in Wisconsin, where Stricker also was born and raised.
“She looks up to what I do for a living, and she plays pretty dang good golf herself,” Stricker said. “It’s a lot of fun to have her with me. It’s special.”
Stricker beat Padraig Harrington on the first hole of a playoff for the Senior PGA title Sunday, giving the 56-year-old American a sweep of the first two majors of the season.
Harrington forced the playoff with a short birdie putt on the par-5 18th, but put his drive in the replay of the 72nd hole in deep grass on the right side of the fairway.
After a failed attempt to hack the ball out, the 51-year-old Irishman dropped to what he said was about 270 yards away and put a 5-wood within 15 feet..
Stricker, who stayed away from his driver and laid up both times on 18, missed a second consecutive putt to win, but Harrington couldn’t make the par putt to extend the playoff.
Stricker and Harrington, who was trying to become the first wire-to-wire winner of the Senior PGA since Rocco Mediate in 2016, finished 18 under. Stricker shot 3-under 69 and Harrington 70.
Stricker’s win came two weeks after a second consecutive victory in the Regions Tradition.
Harrington’s first PGA Tour Champions title was the U.S. Senior Open last year, when he held off Stricker by a stroke in a duel of the opposing Ryder Cup captains from 2021.
Stewart Cink, playing with Stricker and Harrington but never threatening to crash their two-man battle, made a 60-footer for birdie 2 at No. 17 and eagled the par-5 18th to finish two shots back.
A week after turning 50, Cink finished his Champions debut with a 69. He intends to keep competing on the PGA Tour for now.
South Korean and Dallas resident Y.E. Yang, the 2009 PGA champion, was alone in fourth at 11 under after a 70. Defending champion Steven Alker shot 71 to finish 9 under along with Miguel Angel Jimenez and Darren Clarke.
All five of Stricker’s previous senior major wins were by six shots, but this time he came from behind, erasing a five-shot deficit in the final nine holes of the third round to set up another two-player showdown with Harrington two years after the U.S. rout of Harrington’s crew at the Ryder Cup.
On the PGA Tour Sunday Emiliano Grillo won the Charles Schwab Challenge in a playoff at Colonial Country Club,recovering from a double bogey on the 72nd hole. He birdied the second playoff hole to defeat Adam Schenk for his second PGA Tour win. Scott Scheffler and Harry Hall tied for third, one shot behind at 7-under.
