Adrian Houser allowed two hits in 5 1/3 scoreless innings and the Milwaukee Brewers homered three times in a 4-0 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon.
Willy Adames hit a two-run blast in the first inning to put the Brewers ahead for good. Owen Mille and Brian Anderson added solo shots in the seventh.
After homering four times off 2021 Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes and posting their highest hit and run totals of the season in a 12-2 victory Monday, the Astros went scoreless in the final two games of this series. Colin Rea and four relievers combined on a five-hitter Tuesday in the Brewers 6-0 triumph that ended Houston’s eight-game winning streak.
The Astros mustered four hits Wednesday, two off their season low.
Houser, who spent April recovering from a right groin strain, struck out three andwalked one in his fourth appearance of the season. This comes five days after he pitched six shutout innings in a 1-0 loss at Tampa Bay.
His surge is a huge lift for a Brewers pitching staff that is dealing with shoulder injuries to two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, Eric Lauer, Wade Miley and Aaron Ashby.
The Brewers got all the offense they would need in the first inning against Astros starter Brandon Bielak (1-2). After Christian Yelich led off with a double to left, Willy Adames delivered a 429-foot blast over the center-field wall.
Bielak held the Brewers in check before running out of gas in the seventh, when Miller hit a leadoff homer to center and Anderson added a two-out shot to right-center. Miller is batting .400 (24 of 60) this month and has three homers in his last five games.
Houston had one hit against Houser through the first five innings before threatening in the sixth. Mauricio Dubón reached on an error by first baseman Rowdy Tellez with one out and advanced to third on Alex Bregman’s double to left.
Joel Payamps replaced Houser and got out of the jam by striking out Yordan Alvarez and retiring Kyle Tucker on a fly to center. Payamps has inherited 13 runners this season, and only one of them has scored.
Bryse Wilson, Jake Cousins and Hoby Milner combined to allow two hits and no walks over the final three innings.
The Brewers continue their home stand with a four-game home series against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. The Giants will start Scott Alexander (4-0, 4.42 ERA) while the Brewers have not yet named a starting pitcher. First pitch is at 6:40.
In other games in the Central Division Wednesday the Rangers edged the Pirates 3-2, the Reds pounded the Cardinals 10-3 and the Cubs downed the Mets 4-2. The Brewers stretched their lead to two games over the Pirates in the division.
Boston hosts Miami in game five tonight in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. The Heat lead in the series 3-1.
The Green Bay Packers, along with Green Bay city tourism officials, discussed 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay during a news conference Wednesday, including the economic impact and celebrations.
The NFL announced the 2025 draft’s location on Monday during its spring meetings. The draft and related activities will take place inside and around Lambeau Field and Titletown, the collection of shops and restaurants surrounding the stadium. The Packers and Discover Green Bay expect 240,000 to 250,000 visitors for the 2025 draft events, making it the largest event ever held in Green Bay, which has a population of 107,000.
Organizers said many of the details are still in the early stages, including the dates (they’re looking at three possible weekends).
The biggest concern right now is fundraising. The Packers estimate hosting the NFL Draft will cost about $7.5 million. The Packers contributed $1 million and hope to raise the rest through sponsors, government funding, and private donations. Local lawmakers have said they’re hoping for roughly $2 million in state funding.
Organizers are saying that all these efforts will pay off with a $94 million economic boost to the state. $20 million of the windfalls will benefit Green Bay alone, and particularly small businesses.
Green Bay will be the 9th NFL city to host an NFL Draft. Next year’s draft will take place from April 25-27 in Detroit. After being held at various New York locations from 1965-2014, the draft has made stops in Chicago (2015-16), Philadelphia (2017), Dallas (2018), Nashville (2019), Las Vegas (2022) and Kansas City (2023).

Richard (Rick) Leib (pictured) has been selected to serve as the next Oshkosh North High School head girls basketball coach. Leib will lead the Spartan girls basketball program beginning in the winter 2023 season. Leib has over 30 years of coaching experience at Oshkosh North. He previously led the Oshkosh North boys basketball freshman and junior varsity teams for 24 seasons. Leib also served the last five seasons as the assistant coach of the Oshkosh North girls basketball varsity team. “We are excited to see Coach Leib lead our Spartans girls basketball program,” said Craig Lieder, Oshkosh North High School activities coordinator. “His passion for the game and commitment to developing the program through youth outreach and offseason camps will be a valuable asset.” “I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to serve the girls basketball program,” said Leib. “ I’m excited to see us develop with each player knowing that if we put in the work we are worthy of competing at the highest level and capable of winning every game.” As part of his leadership, Leib is focused on growing the northside youth basketball program. For several years, he has organized and hosted spring, summer, and fall camps for elementary and middle school students. The camps focus on fundamentals and create an environment where learning the game is fun, challenging, and rewarding. Registration is currently open for the Summer Girls Basketball Camp, happening June 12 through June 27 and open to first-grade through ninth-grade students. Pre-registration is appreciated and more information is available online at https://www.oshkoshnorthgirlsbasketball.com/program/camps/.
