SHARED REVENUE BILL
State Representative Alex Dallman is pleased with the Assembly’s passing of a bill that invests historic funding to shared revenue for local governments across Wisconsin. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says the bill isn’t perfect but under it every municipality would see at least a 15 percent increase in shared revenue. He notes in the Assembly it passed along a partisan vote so he’s hoping the Senate will tweak it a bit to gain more support and go on to the Governor for signing into law. Examples he gave of increases in shared revenue were the Town of Berlin would see its shared revenue increase from $14,000 to $40,000, and the City of Berlin’s $1.7 million in shared revenue would increase by $300,000. State Representative Jon Plumer of Lodi says he is proud of what the bill accomplishes as well.
GREEN LAKE COUNTY DA COMMENDS JFC ON PROSECUTOR PAY INCREASE
Green Lake County District Attorney Gerise LaSpisa recently thanked and commended the Joint Finance Committee for its strong support of the criminal justice system by increasing pay for Assistant District Attorneys. She says the JFC delivered a strong message of support to the State’s criminal justice workers through its budget actions. She says, “As a career prosecutor who has worked in several offices as an Assistant District Attorney, I am keenly aware of the struggles and sacrifices that prosecutors face while advocating for crime victims and protecting our communities.” She added far too many good and talented attorneys have left their ranks simply because the compensation for their services was not adequate. She says as District Attorney, she has also found it difficult to attract prosecutors to fill vacancies, especially in a small rural county.
VILLAGE GREEN BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT
Ripon Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon says residents will see a pergola go up on the Village Green over the next three to four weeks. He says a donation of $25,000 from Pericles Financial Services will cover the costs of constructing the pergola. He notes they decided to increase the size of it from 20 by 60 foot to 20 by 80 foot. The property has been regraded and reseeded over the past few weeks. The goal is to beautify the park with amenities including tables and umbrellas, park benches, flower planters, and festive lighting. The cost of the project is approximately $200,000. Tebon says Main Street has applied for grants to offset expenses. They also have a goal to raise $75,000 through donations and sponsorships hoping the project can begin this summer. He says their philosophy has always been to have the money in hand before the works proceeds.
BARLOW PARK/JOURNEY NATURE-BASED PLAYGROUND ADDITIONS
Work is progressing on the second phase of a nature-based playground at Barlow Park/Journey School in Ripon. Ripon Area School District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says they are excited about the additional features they are adding to the playground and can’t wait for the public to be able to experience them, which should be this summer. There will be a zip line and a log scramble. Whitrock says it’s a perfect fit for the school which is Play-Based, Social-Emotional, and competency-based learning. She says it engages children in a different way, allowing them to use their large and small motor skills on the equipment. Whitrock says it gives children a chance to be creative not realizing while they are playing that they are also learning.
OASD JOB FAIR
The Oshkosh Area School District is hosting a district-wide job fair with on-the-spot interviews Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm at the District Administration Office on South Eagle Street. Jobseekers are invited to attend and see what the district has to offer-for teaching staff and many other areas including, substitutes, clerical, custodial, food service and more with full and part-time options. You can meet with HR staff, principals, supervisors, and educators to learn about current open positions with immediate start dates. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Job seekers can complete a brief Job Fair interest form online to share their contact information and careers interests.

FDL COUNTY OFFICES CLOSED ON MEMORIAL DAY
Fond du Lac County has announced its schedule for the Memorial Day holiday. County offices in the City-County Government Center, the Sheriff’s Office lobby window, the Portland Street Annex, the Department of Social Services and the Highway Department in Fond du Lac will be closed next Monday. The Moraine Lakes Consortium call center will also be closed all day.
THRASHER SUMMER/FALL LINEUP ANNOUNCED
An extensive mix of entertainers will perform at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake this summer and fall. With a blend of past performers and new artists to debut at Thrasher, Opera House officials are excited to welcome guests to the Summer/Fall Season. Executive Director Rachael Avery says, “We are looking forward to a fresh, new season that represents a variety of genres, from blues, singer/songwriters, rock n’ roll, jazz, and everything in between. We’ll welcome new artists for the first time; others are fan favorites who will bring their talents back to the historical stage.” Tickets went on sale for all shows last Friday.
