DEBT CEILING TALKS
It’s a critical week for debt ceiling talks between President Joe Biden and House Republican leaders. The President is supposed to sit down and talk with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and three other top congressional leaders starting today. The White House has not ruled out the annual spending caps that Republicans say must accompany any increase in the nation’s $31.4 trillion debt limit. Congressman Glenn Grothman doesn’t believe what the Republicans are asking for is unreasonable. He says they want to bring spending for some of the agencies back to where they were a year ago. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says if the U.S. defaults on its debit, it will be devastating to the economy and U.S. residents. President Biden’s talk with Republican leaders comes a day ahead of him leaving for a meeting of the Group of Seven nations in Japan.

DASH FOR THE STACHE
The Tri-County Overdose Fatality Review Team is teaming up with a family that lost a love one to a Fentanyl overdose for a 1 mile walk and 5K run in Redgranite this summer. “Dash for the Stache” is being done in honor of Jake Jezwinski on the Bannerman Trail on what would have been his birthday Saturday, July 15th. In addition to the run and walk there will be music, food, raffles, speakers, vendors and more. Glenda Jezwinski is Jake’s mother. He was 36 when he died on January 21st, 2022 of an overdose. She says he liked to vape and didn’t realize someone had put Fentanyl in it. Jake was particularly proud of his moustache, which is how the name “Dash for the Stache” was coined. Lisa Rollins is the facilitator for the Tri-County Overdose Fatality Review Team for Green Lake, Marquette, and Waushara counties. She says just about everyone’s life has been touched by drugs and events like this create awareness. Registration is underway now for the “Dash for the Stache” and is cheaper if you get it done by June 9th. You can register online on the Health Department’s page for Marquette County.
