5/9/23 Missing Hurley Boy Found Safe in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

9 May 2023 News

The 8-year-old Hurley boy missing in the Upper Peninsula’s Porcupine Mountains over the weekend was found safe by searchers Monday afternoon. Nante Niemi was gathering wood while camping with his family when he was last seen Saturday afternoon in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. He was found about two miles from the campsite. The second grader was found near a log and appeared to be in good shape. Michigan State Police in a statement said, “He had braved the elements by taking shelter under a log where he was ultimately found. He is in good health and reunited with his family.” The Hurley School District also posted several photos of Nante with the two rescuers who found him riding piggyback on one of them and another munching on a Clif bar. The District said, “Words can not describe the emotions and joy the students and staff are experiencing at this moment.”  (Hurley School District Facebook photos).
