RIPON COLLEGE GROUNDBREAKINGS
Groundbreaking ceremonies for two major infrastructure projects at Ripon College-an expanded and renovated science center and the school’s first on-campus stadium were held Friday. The new science center facility will be named the Franzen Science Center in honor of benefactors Mark Franzen, secretary of the Ripon College Board of Trustees, and Janice Heinz Franzen both graduates of the Class of 1983. GLENDALE MAN ARRESTED DURING FDL COUNTY TRAFFIC CHASE
A 45-year-old Glendale man is facing felony fleeing and drug charges for a 3.5 mile traffic chase on Fond du Lac County Highway TC in the Town of Lamartine early Friday morning. A Sheriff’s deputy tried to pull the suspect’s vehicle over on County Highway TC at Dehring Road for traffic violations just before 2:30 am. During the pursuit the deputy watched the driver throw items out along the way which later proved to suspected cocaine and ecstasy. The suspect’s vehicle ultimately came to a stop west of State Highway 26. He was taken into custody during a high-risk contact. In addition to the fleeing and drug charges he was arrested on an OWI charge and a warrant out of the Department of Corrections. No one was injured during the pursuit and there was no property damage.
BOG BLOCKS RAT RIVER
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a navigation hazard on the Rat River. They say a large bog is blocking the Rat River near the Wolf River. It is estimated to be about 200 feet across. The DNR, the Boom Bay Fire Department, and the Poy Sippi Fire Department spent several hours Sunday trying to do something about it but without success. They are asking people to use extreme caution in the area. The Rat River remains impassible on the downstream side of the bend.
UNACCOMPANIED MINORS CROSSING THE BORDER
During a recent hearing in Washington, D.C. Congressman Glenn Grothman questioned Robin Dunn Marcos, Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement about the number of unaccompanied migrant children who are entering our borders. Congressman Grothman is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs. A recent New York Times article uncovered that the Biden Administration has lost track of over 85,000 unaccompanied children it allowed to enter the country illegally. The federal lawmaker says that’s an appalling number that the press should make people aware of. He says Robin Dunn Marcos was unable to answer basic questions about the Health and Human Service’s handling of unaccompanied migrant children. He feels under her leadership the Office of Refugee Resettlement has prioritized the speedy release of children over their safety.
Brandon Fairwater Policing
Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman says the county will do what it can if Brandon-Fairwater decides to do away with their police department. The villages are considering having the Sheriff’s Office take over policing. Kaufman says smaller municipalities are having a tough time finding good officers. He says our law enforcement agencies are under attack politically by those who want to defund them and as a result it is more difficult to recruit new officers. Nothing has been finalized yet, but if the county does take over policing of those two villages the Sheriff’s Department would have to hire an additional deputy. The villages would chip in on the cost for that.
THEDACARE MASKING REQUIREMENT ENDING
For nearly three years, to protect patients, team members and communities from potential exposure to COVID-19 when visiting ThedaCare facilities, the health care agency has implemented and adjusted several safety measures. Required masking by all team members, patients and visitors in any public setting on ThedaCare facilities was implemented. ThedaCare is now in a position to discontinue mandatory masking at all sites, beginning today. For those who wish to continue masking, they would be welcome to do so. This decision was made following a thorough risk assessment performed by ThedaCare’s Infection Prevention Teams. Masking will continue to be required during some situations.
