TWO ALLENTON MEN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES IN FDL
Fond du Lac Police arrested two Allenton men while responding with City Fire and Rescue to a medical call in the 200 block of Ledgeview Avenue Friday afternoon. Detectives who were nearby investigating a burglary case also responded to the scene and arrested a 38-year-old Allenton man on drug charges. A 54-year-old Allenton man was actively overdosing on suspected fentanyl. Detectives provided lifesaving efforts until paramedics arrived. The man was taken to St. Agnes Hospital and was later arrested on drug charges. Both men were taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail.
BURGLARY REPORTED IN OSHKOSH
Oshkosh Police are looking for a burglar that forced entry into a closed business early Friday morning, taking an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled on foot. It happened just after 3 am at a business located in the 400 block of North Sawyer Street. The suspect was wearing a blue sweatshirt, black face mask, and black pants. No one was injured during the incident. Anyone who has information or who lives in the area and may have surveillance video is asked to call Oshkosh Police at 920-236-5700. DODGE COUNTY SCAM
Officials with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office say they do not have a female detective placing calls to residents requesting information on an “urgent matter.” The scammer also may claim that your passport has been stolen and someone is using it. The Sheriff’s Office has gotten multiple calls from people saying the scam callers are spoofing a Dodge County number so it looks like the call is coming from within the county. Those who have concerns about the validity of a phone call are encouraged to call the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office at 920-386-3726.
SENATOR BALLWEG BUDGET LISTENING SESSIONS TODAY
State Senator Joan Ballweg, a member of the state’s Joint Finance Committee, is holding budget listening sessions for residents of the 14th State Senate District in the area today. She will be at the Waupaca City Hall from 9:30 to 10:30 am, the Clintonville Library from 1 to 2 pm, and the Ripon Library from 4 to 5 pm. Ballweg will also speak before the Ripon Common Council tonight. Her final three listening sessions will be on Monday, April 10th from 9 to 10 am at the Randolph Village Hall, the Lodi Public Library from 1 to 2 pm, and the Portage Public Library from 3 to 4 pm.
REPRESENTATIVE PLUMER ON LAW AND ORDER BILLS
The State Assembly last week passed several bills that get tougher on crime and criminals. One bill would increase penalties for reckless driving, recklessly endangering safety while driving, and causing bodily harm to another while driving. State Representative Jon Plumer is all for that. He says it would double the penalties for putting others’ lives at risk. Vehicle impoundment would also be a possible consequence for repeat reckless drivers. Another bill sets a mandatory minimum sentence of five years for felons that possess a firearm. The state lawmaker from Lodi says the majority of felon in possession of a firearm charges are dismissed without any consequences. Another bill would hold parole boards more publically accountable.
RIPON HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL SELECTION PROCESS
Ripon Area School District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says she is pleased that Bill Kinziger has been approved as the District’s next High School Principal. Kinziger emerged as the top choice to succeed Randy Hatlen whose last day with the District is on June 30th. Kinziger is currently the Ripon High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, a position he has held for 8 years. Previously, he was a social studies teacher at Ripon High School and Lumen Charter High School for 25 years. He was the unanimous choice of the sixteen member selection team following three full days of interviews with the four finalists. Whitrock says there were a lot of stakeholders involved in the process of selecting the next high school principal. This week the process begins for selecting Kinziger’s successor as high school assistant principal and athletic director.
WINNEBAGO COUNTY BOARD TASK FORCE ON COMMITTEE STRUCTURE MEETS
The Winnebago County Board’s Task Force on Committee Structure will hold their first meeting Wednesday at 6 pm in room 120 of the County Administration Building in Oshkosh. The county board currently has twelve standing committees, three additional supervisory boards, and one steering committee. County Supervisor Jacob Floam was one of the five members appointed to the task force by County Board Chairman Thomas Egan last week. Floam says he’s spoken with Fond du Lac County’s Board Chairperson and County Executive about their committee structure and how they operate with only 5 standing committees. Floam says they would like to be able to present their finds to the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee and have any recommended committee structure changes before the County Board prior to authorization of the 2024 County Budget. Any changes would likely be implemented at the beginning of the 2024 term.
RIPON EARLY BIRD KIWANIS DRIVE-THROUGH EASTER EVENT
The Ripon Early Bird Kiwanis Club is hosting a free drive-through event that will provide Easter eggs, candy and books for children 10 and under this Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm at Barlow Park. They are looking for both volunteers and participants for the event. Club President Daniel Parks says the drive-through project evolved based on community need. In 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic it was no longer safe to do an Easter egg hunt. Kiwanis brainstormed ways to afford children the opportunity to enjoy an Easter-themed event without fear of health concerns. Parks says the drive-through event has been very popular for the past two years. This year cars will form two lanes with the Easter Bunny in between to reduce the waiting time.
