OMRO MAN CHARGED WITH ELDORADO WOMAN’S MURDER
Winnebago County prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old Omro man for the murder of a 20-year-old Eldorado woman. Bond was set at $1 million cash for Joseph Olvera when he made his initial court appearance Monday on first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety charges. According to the criminal complaint Olvera is suspected of strangling and killing his girlfriend Johanna Schultz in his apartment in the 500 block of Spruce Street on March 11th. Olvera called 911 to say he had killed her. He also said he had multiple weapons and was going to end his life. He was arrested after a standoff incident, finally exiting his apartment with a gun and wearing body armor. He was taken into custody after dropping the gun and taking off the body armor. According to the complaint Olvera and Schultz had a “toxic” relationship arguing several times a month. An autopsy determined Schultz died of “smothering.” Olvera will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on March 30th. A visitation and services were held for Schultz in Ripon yesterday.
PORCH FIRE IN THE TOWN OF FRIENDSHIP
Early Monday morning Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies and the Van Dyne Fire Department were dispatched to N9564 Van Dyne Road in the Town of Friendship for a porch fire. A neighbor called in the fire just before 3:30 am. When deputies arrived they found the fire was threatening the attached structure, which contained 2 living units and Giese’s Country Market. Residents of both units were evacuated while firefighters got the blaze under control. It’s believed a discarded cigarette started a stack of cardboard and a desk on the porch on fire. Steady winds may have assisted in igniting and sustaining the fire. No injuries were reported. Walter Schmid owns the property. The deck and items on it were a total loss. Firefighters created minor damage to the structure to ensure the fire had not entered any closed spaces. Residents were allowed to return to their homes after the firefighting efforts.

GROTHMAN SUPPORTING KELLY IN STATE SUPREME COURT RACE
Congressman Glenn Grothman is supporting Judge Daniel Kelly in the State Supreme Court race. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says he’s familiar with Kelly who supports the Photo ID law for voters. He says Kelly will stick with our Constitution too. On the other hand he doesn’t support Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz. He says she believes the Photo ID law is racist. But Grothman also notes there were over 200 murders in Milwaukee County last year partly because judges there are soft on crime. Protasiewicz and Kelly survived a four-candidate field for the Supreme Court race last month. Protasiewicz got the most votes in that primary election.
