FDL MAN ARRESTED AFTER VEHICLE CHASE
A 31-year-old Fond du Lac man fleeing from a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy and Village of Rosendale police officer took out a power pole on State Highway 26 near Olden Road Saturday night. The highway had to be shut down for 2 hours while an Alliant Energy crew removed power lines from the roadway. A Sheriff’s deputy tried to pull the suspect over on State Highway 23 near Henrich Road in the Town of Lamartine after running the license plate and learning the registered owner was wanted on a felony warrant from the state Corrections Department. That led to a six-mile chase. After running into the power pole the Fond du Lac man fled on foot into a farm field where he was taken into custody. He is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on eluding and resisting an officer charges and several traffic violations. He was out on parole for a Waushara County forgery conviction.
FDL COUNTY TRAFFIC CHASE RESULTS IN ARREST
A 30-year-old Oshkosh man is facing charges for leading a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy on a nearly 5 mile chase early Friday morning on Interstate 41. The deputy tried to pull the suspect’s vehicle over for a traffic violation on I-41 northbound at Winnebago Street in the Town of Friendship. The deputy activated the squad’s emergency equipment but the suspect’s vehicle refused to yield. The pursuit came to stop when the suspect pulled over on the off ramp to County Highway N. A high-risk vehicle contact was used and the driver was taken into custody. The Oshkosh man was arrested for fleeing an officer and other traffic-related violations. The State Patrol assisted on the stop. The time of the chase was 2:41 Friday morning.
FOURTH OWI ARREST FOR MENASHA MAN
The State Patrol arrested a 44-year-old Menasha man late Saturday morning in Winnebago County for his fourth operating a motor vehicle under the influence offense. Just before 10 am a state trooper was checking on a vehicle in the ditch near County Highway MM and Clark Road. When the trooper arrived, he noticed Jesse Hoppe sitting in the vehicle. The trooper observed signs of impairment and a field sobriety test was conducted. Hoppe was arrested and taken to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Jail.
WAUPUN MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD PORN POSSESSION
Ten counts of possession of child pornography have been brought against a 27-year-old Waupun man. Gregory Starnes posted a $2,000 cash bond after making his initial appearance in Dodge County court last week. He will be back in court for a preliminary hearing Thursday. Waupun Police began their investigation after receiving a CypberTip last November. According to the criminal complaint multiple illegal images were found in a cloud-based storage that Starnes was tied to. Last Wednesday a search warrant was executed at his residence and he was taken into custody. Starnes alleged admitted to opening links that others sent to him that contained child porn.
DODGE COUNTY DA OFFICE STAFFING ANNOUNCED
Dodge County’s new District Attorney Andrea Will has announced staffing additions to round out the team of prosecutors needed to keep the office operating efficiently. Will started on February 20th after being appointed by the Governor to replace Kurt Klomberg who resigned. She came into an with one veteran Dodge County assistant district attorney. Since then, Margaret Kunisch returned from leave. Kunisch has 10 years’ experience and has been with the Dodge County’s DA’s office since 2019. Assistant District Attorney Kevin Osbourne joined the office February 27th. He retired from the Waukesha County DA’s office after serving that county for over 30 years. On March 3rd Shawn Woller transferred from the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office where he has been an ADA since 2015. ADA Chad Wozniak is transferring from the Milwaukee County DA’s Office where he’s worked since 2010 and starts for Dodge County on March 27th. Will says she has also hired a Managing Attorney who is retiring from the U.S. Army and has over 20 years of legal experience. That person starts in July. Will says she is extremely proud of the team that has come together for the Dodge County DA’s Office.
THEDACARE EXPANSION CONTINUES
The next major milestone in ThedaCare’s $100 million investment to modernize its Regional Medical Center in Neenah has been reached as it opens its new Emergency Department space today. Since the groundbreaking last spring, construction crews have been working on multiple areas of the transformation that supports ThedaCare’s mission to improve health and well-being of the communities served. Care teams will begin to provide care in the newly constructed portion of the Emergency Department today. The new space includes a designated ED entrance, spacious waiting room, eight additional emergency care rooms and three triage rooms. The existing Emergency Department remained open during the initial construction process, and construction teams will now focus on modernizing that space.
CONGRESSMAN GROTHMAN ON FEDERAL BUDGET PROPOSAL
House Budget Committee member Glenn Grothman says at a time when the national debt towers above $31 trillion and inflation is soaring at levels not seen since the 1980’s President Biden’s budget would increase spending, raise taxes, and add to the national debt. Congressman Grothman says the budget for the next fiscal year would spend $6.8 trillion, which we cannot afford. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says he wants to root out wasteful spending and find real solutions to failed economic policies, he says Biden’s budget doesn’t accomplish that. He also questions less funding for Homeland Security and a strong emphasis on sub-agencies promoting more inclusion and diversity.
BADGER STATE SHERIFF’S ASSOCIATION APPEAL
The president of the Badger State Sheriff’s Association tells us if you’ve recently gotten a piece of mail from your county sheriff asking you to become a voluntary member of the association, it is a legitimate request and not a scam. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says once a year they send out the appeal. It is a chance to become an honorary member which includes receiving an honorary membership card, bumper sticker, and a newsletter. All 72 Sheriffs in the state are members of the association. Schmidt says they use the funds to improve the office of Sheriff across Wisconsin. He says the association provides training, legal representation, and lobbies for legislation that benefits residents and the constitutionality of the office of Sheriff.
DAY STABILIZATION SERVICES
The executive director of the Foundation for the Ripon Community Hospital believes the hospital’s Day Stabilization Services fills a niche for those in the midst of mental health crises. The Day Stabilization Services offers support for up to 23 hours to individuals experiencing mental health crises. Shawn Fisher says it is just over the past few years the health experts recognized more people were suffering from mental health issues, but the waiting lists for those services don’t help out those with immediate needs. The Foundation’s Spring Raffle on Wednesday, April 12th will benefit the Day Stabilization Services at SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital. Tickets are $10 each or $40 for five.
