CANDY-NO THERE DRUGS

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt is warning parents about drugs that come in products designed to look like candy bars or colorful candy. During an arrest last Sunday morning deputies seized chocolate bars containing psilocybin mushrooms and what looked like colorful candy or vitamin pills which actually had methamphetamine in them.   The traffic stop on Interstate 41 started as a registration violation. The owner of the vehicle was actually still in the County Jail on drug charges. The 36-year-old Fond du Lac woman operating the vehicle resisted arrest after getting out of it. After a Sheriff’s K9 hit on the vehicle during an open air sniff and the vehicle was searched.  Seized from the vehicle were 2 electronic scales, suspected marijuana, 3 psilocybin mushroom chocolate bars, and 50 suspected methamphetamine pills. The woman operating the vehicle has a drug-related criminal history and was out on bail for possession of cocaine and other charges. She is facing new charges as a result of the arrest. CONGRESSMAN GROTHMAN ON BANK FAILURES

Congressman Glenn Grothman says he has mixed feelings about the federal government guaranteeing depositors in a couple of failing banks. He says it’s good that people won’t be losing their money and savings, but he says the Federal Reserve’s guarantee is yet another of those things that fuels our economic debt and inflation. He says there are potential rocky times ahead. He says another issue with banks is that the Federal Reserve requires some of them to make loans to customers who might be at higher risk of defaulting on a loan. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah also takes issue with the Fed fully guaranteeing depositors who have more than $250,000 in their accounts. He feels that is too much of threshold to have a 100 percent guarantee on.

BUILDING A FIRE TRUCK

It’s a long process to build a fire truck but the Ripon Area Fire District is staying on top of it while Pierce Manufacturing builds a new truck for them. District Governing Board President Ellen Sorensen says the committee overseeing the effort will be meeting with officials at Pierce Tuesday to check on the progress of the truck and discuss changes they want to be made. Sorensen says Pierce will have a spread sheet prepared for the committee when they meet detailing increases or decreases in cost as the committee asks for things to be added or removed. Sorensen says she relies on the expertise of committee members because she doesn’t have that knowledge about fire trucks, but she can be helpful when it comes to the area of finance. Sorensen’s goal is to improve the flow of communications between the board and firefighters.
