Oshkosh Man Charged With Drunken Driving Homicide

Bond has been set at $1 million cash for a 56-year-old Oshkosh man charged with drunken driving homicide for a Fond du Lac County accident that killed a 58-year-old Waukesha man and seriously injured a 62-year-old Waukesha woman. Brian Sippel faces seven felony charges stemming from the January 14th accident on Highway 151above Interstate 41 near the on ramp to I-41. Annual Award Renamed After Allen J Buechel

Envision Greater Fond du Lac has renamed its Lifetime Achievement Award after the late Allen J. Buechel. Buechel was with the Fond du Lac County Board for 17 years and served as County Executive for 29 years until his death last March. Envision President and CEO Sadie Vander Velde says their Board of Directors felt very strongly about renaming the award after Buechel who was instrumental in the creation of Envision and also the first Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation. But he made many other contributions during his nearly 50 years of service to the county that benefited county residents. A humble man, Vander Velde says if Buechel were still with us he wouldn’t know what to make of the award that will be presented at Envision’s Annual Meeting which will be held at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Fond du Lac on Thursday, February 23rd.

National Debt Ceiling

Congressman Glenn Grothman says we have about five months until we need to extend the national debt ceiling. The debt ceiling is currently at $31.4 trillion, but if something isn’t done in the next few months the country could default on that debt. Lawmakers need to reach a compromise to extend that debt. Grothman says we will need to borrow more money because Democrats aren’t likely to curb spending and try and keep it at last year’s levels. He says the last spending bill was for $1.7 trillion and rather than spend some of that on more border patrol agents it was spent to hire more lawyers to help out people who are coming into our country.  According to the U.S. Treasury since 1960 Congress has acted 78 times to raise, temporarily extend or revise the definition of the debt limit.

Ready For Severe Weather

For 17 years Amy Haase has dealt with severe weather and tornado threats in Dodge County, but this year her focus will turn to Fond du Lac County. Haase was the Emergency Management Director for Dodge County but now is Fond du Lac County’s Communications and Emergency Management Director. She notes Dodge County didn’t have any tornadoes last year, but they are always a threat and the state has seen tornadoes during every month of the year. She says she will be ready for severe weather when it comes. She says over the years the National Weather Service has gotten very good at narrowing down where a tornado might happen and just how powerful one is when it occurs. She says this spring they will once again offer a weather spotter class so those who are interested should keep an eye out for information on where and when that class will be offered.
