Michigan State was trailing No. 18 Wisconsin by five points with less than four minutes to go when Spartans coach Tom Izzo delivered a message to his veteran team.
“Once we all kind of came into the huddle, coach said to us, ‘We’re winning this game,’” senior forward Malik Hall said. “After that, everyone just kind of said, ‘Hey, we’ve got to do everything we can to win this game.’”
A.J. Hoggard made a tiebreaking layup with 41 seconds left and Michigan State rallied past the Badgers 69-65 on Tuesday night for its seventh consecutive victory.
Wisconsin (11-4, 3-2 Big Ten) was playing its second straight game without leading scorer Tyler Wahl. The Badgers have gone 0-2 without him, and coach Greg Gard had no update on when Wahl might return.
Michigan State (12-4, 4-1) made its last eight field-goal attempts and went 16 of 17 from the foul line to win a nip-and-tuck game that featured 14 lead changes. Neither team led by more than six points.
Tyson Walker added 13 points, Jaden Akins 12 and Hoggard 10 for Michigan State.
Steven Crowl led Wisconsin with 19 points, followed by Chucky Hepburn’s 14 and Connor Essegian’s 13 points.
Wisconsin is at Indiana on Saturday.
Ripn College plays at Lawrence University tonight. Ripon is 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Tipoff is at 7:30.
UW-Oshkosh is at UW-Whitewater tonight. The Titans are 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Tipoff is at 7:00.
The Ripon College women’s team is at Lawrence University tonight with the tipoff at 5:30. Ripon is 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

The Bucks are back in action tonight as they play in Atlanta against the Hawks. Milwaukee is 26-14 while Atlanta is 19-21. The Bucks are third in the Eastern Conference, a g ame behind the Nets and 2 ½ behind the Celtics. Milwaukee came from 17 points down Monday night to win at New York over the Knicks 111-107.
The Packers were busy on Tuesday as they signed 13 free agents. Of those, 10 spent at least part of the season on the Packers’ practice squad. Here’s the list of players signed.

Ford (5-11, 188) was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the first round (No. 13 overall) of the 2022 Canadian Football League Draft out of the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada). As a rookie, he played in 18 games for the Blue Bombers, recording three tackles on defense and 10 tackles on special teams. While at Waterloo, the Niagara Falls, Ontario, native was a three-time Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All-Star and was twice named second-team All-Canadian. In four seasons, Ford registered 94 total tackles, six sacks, 20 pass knockdowns and six interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.
White (6-4, 207) played for five years (2017-21) at the University of South Carolina and left as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 368 career points. He finished ranked among the top three in school history in field goals made (t-No. 1, 72) and attempted (No. 1, 99) and PATs made (No. 2, 152) and attempted (No. 2, 154). In 2021, White made 16 of 17 field goals and was named second-team All-SEC and honorable mention All-America by Phil Steele’s College Football as well as third-team All-SEC by Pro Football Focus. He logged six fourth-quarter or overtime game-winning field goals in his career, providing the deciding points in wins over Louisiana Tech (2017), Tennessee (2017), Missouri (2018), Tennessee (2018), Georgia (2019) and East Carolina (2021).
Wiggins (5-11, 209), a second-year player, was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round (No. 243 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Cincinnati. As a rookie, he started the season on the Cardinals’ practice squad before appearing in three games for Arizona and then being placed on injured reserve on Dec. 4, 2021. Wiggins was released by Arizona after the 2022 training camp and spent some time in September on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was named a second-team All-American by The Associated Press and was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award in 2020.
