Missing Wautoma Boy Found Safe

Wautoma Police say an 11-year-old boy reported missing Wednesday afternoon was found safe. Police reported him missing on their Facebook page and posted a photo of him, which was later removed. The family and police thanked those who kept an eye out for the missing boy and weighed in with questions and tips. Prior to being found he had been spotted behind the A & W Restaurant in Wautoma. At 3:20 pm Wautoma Police reported he had been found safe a little over an hour after their original post.

Campbellsport Man Bound Over For Trail on Felony Theft Charge

A 56-year-old Campbellsport man facing a felony theft charge in Sheboygan County for allegedly stealing scrap metal from a former employer, has been bound over for trial. David Kramer Wednesday waived his right to a preliminary hearing and entered a not guilty plea when he was subsequently arraigned. Kramer was fired from Manning Lighting in Sheboygan. According to the criminal complaint he later returned there to tell the owner he had sold some scrap metal to cover company expenses. He hid the $9,000 in a lock box in the ceiling in his former office. Police contacted the scrap metal yard he had sold the scrap to and learned he had sold them nearly $100,000 worth of scrap metal in the past 10 years. Kramer claimed it was from his small machine shop. A scheduling conference is set in the case for April 11th.

Drive Sober Effort Continues

Drivers are reminded that the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday enforcement campaign continues through New Year’s Day on Sunday. Dodge County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jeremy Wolfe says they cannot combat drunken or drugged driving alone. He says, “If a friend is about to drink and drive, take the keys and help them get home safely. If you see a driver you suspect is under the influence call 911.” Last year in Wisconsin, there were 6,368 alcohol-related crashes that killed 166 people. Alcohol contributed to more than a quarter of all traffic fatalities. Someone is killed or injured in an impaired driving crash every two hours in Wisconsin. During the last holiday season, there were nearly 400 crashes that involved an impaired driver; these crashes killed seven people and injured 192 others.

Rosendale Switching Garbage and Recycling Collection Services

Village of Rosendale residents are reminded that with the village switching to a new service for garbage and recycling collection, Friday will be the final day for pickup by Waste Management. Residents should have both their old garbage and recycling cans on the curb by this evening. After they have been emptied on Friday cans should be left on the curb for collection. On Friday, January 6th residents can begin using the new cans that were distributed on December 19th. Garbage only will be collected on the 6th. After that the rotation begins with recycling being every other week. The village is switching to GFL or Green for Life Environmental for its garbage and recycling collection services.

FDL County Health Department Year

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says they are looking forward to a fresh start in the New Year.  She points out that they are starting to put COVID-19 behind them after several years of heavy efforts in that area. But 2022 had other challenges like the death of longtime County Executive Allen Buechel. She says beyond being a great leader for the county, Buechel took a genuine interest in all its employees remembering minute details about those he engaged in conversation. Mueller says this year kicked off their community health assessment and they held community priority strategy events including one in Ripon. In 2023 they hope to make progress on the three top priorities of mental health, substance use, and chronic disease identified in the community health assessment.

Longtime Waupun Alderwoman Passes Away

Funeral services were held this week for longtime Waupun Alderwoman Nancy Vanderkin. She died on Wednesday, December 21st at Waupun Memorial Hospital with her daughters at her side. She was 74 years old. Her funeral was held at the Waupun City Hall Auditorium this past Tuesday. In her honor Waupun Mayor Rohn Bishop had asked that the City of Waupun flag be flown at half-staff at Waupun Utilities and Shaler Park. She was a longtime member of the Police and Fire Commission. Bishop says she was always looking out for their fire and police professionals, and also enjoyed her time on the city’s utility commission. Nancy and her husband Larry Vanderkin owned and operated the Last Chapter restaurant in Waupun for many years. He preceded her in death in 2002.

Courthouse Dogs

The Green Lake County Board of Supervisors this month unanimously approved a request by the District Attorney to allow the use of emotional support dogs in the Courthouse Facility. There would be no cost for the County and the dogs would be provided through a program out of Dane County. County Supervisor Luke Dretske says being in a courtroom to give testimony can be an overwhelming experience for a witness to a crime or a crime victim. The dogs are trained to help provide a calming influence. The Green Lake County District Attorney’s Office will handle all aspects of the program.

County Offices Closed For The Holiday

County offices in Fond du Lac and Green Lake County will be closed for the New Year’s holiday. Fond du Lac County offices in the City-County Government Center in Fond du Lac, the Sheriff’s lobby/records office; the Department of Community Programs, Department of Social Services and the Veterans Service Office will be closed all day next Monday.  County offices in the Government Center, the Department of Community Programs, Department of Social Services and the Veterans Service Office will close at noon this Friday. The Sheriff’s lobby/records office will close at 11 am that day. The Highway Department will be closed all day Monday. The Moraine Lakes Consortium call center will be closed all day on Friday and Monday. The Green Lake County Government Center and County Highway Department will be closed Friday and Monday. Fox River Industries is closed through Monday. 

New Season Kicking Off At Thrasher

The Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake will kick off its 2023 season the first weekend of the New Year. Thrasher Executive Director Rachael Avery says they will have something for everyone throughout their new season. They will start things off with Country Blues Musician Charlie Parr who will perform on Friday, January 6th at 7:30 pm. Parr was born and raised in Austin, Minnesota and is a bit of a storyteller. The Missoula Children’s Theatre will hold auditions for The Frog Prince at the Thrasher on Monday, January 16th from 4 to 6 pm. Performances of the play will be at the Thrasher at 3 and 5:30 pm on Saturday, January 21st. Avery says children from Kindergarten through 12th Grade are welcome to audition. She says it is free and the week long program allows children to see if they have an interest in theater. For more information about the shows or tickets visit the Thrasher website.

Busy Schedule For EAA Aviation Museum

The EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh is already lining up some great activities for 2023. Museum educators will read a story aloud and lead an accompanying activity for children and caregivers on select Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am. It is designed for children 3 to 5 years of age. For adults the Aviation Adventure Speaker Series resumes with a lineup of speakers from many sectors of aviation. It will be held the third Thursday of the month. On Saturday, February 11th there is the Winter Flight Fest. It will run from 8 am to 4 pm featuring a variety of activities including a skiplane fly-in. The first-ever Flight at the Museum takes place on Saturday, March 11th from 5:30 to 9 pm. Guests will enjoy an evening of fine food, beer tasting, and live music from Janet Planet and her band.
