Snowbound Rescue

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt is commending Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, EMS, and County Highway snowplow drivers for working together to rescue and stabilize a patient on Christmas Day. Shortly after noon responders were sent to a rural address in the Town of Alto for a report of a man in his seventies who amputated two fingers while trying to clear snow plugged in his snow blower. When Deputy Andrew Jagfeld arrived, he found the man’s 800 foot plus long driveway drifted over by several feet of snow. With the teamwork of two snowplow drivers, deputies with med bags, and Ripon Guardian Ambulance the rescuers were able to get to the man, get him stabilized and to a hospital. Sheriff Waldschmidt says it was great work by all involved. (Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s photo)

Inhalant Vaccine Being Developed For COVID-19

A former member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says vaccine drug makers are working on a vaccine that would be inhaled instead of injected into a person to prevent or stop the spread of the coronavirus. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says COVID -19 is primarily spread through the air so an inhalant vaccine might be more effective because it would get into your airway faster to stop the virus. He says scientists are working on vaccines for COVID that would prevent new variants and the hope in the future is to develop one that takes out the disease entirely. The COVID-19 pandemic has been in the United States since February of 2020.

Little White School House

Work is continuing toward moving the Little White School House in Ripon to the former Marine Credit Union site on West Fond du Lac Street. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mandy Kimes says they had a busy last few months of the year with organizing and putting on Septemberfest and Dickens of a Christmas, and moving into their new location in the former Carnegie Building. She says it is a historical landmark, which adds step to the process. She says it will change the way they receive tourists and hopefully will transform the Little White School House into a year-round visitor center and museum.
