Third Person Convicted Of Voter Fraud In FDL County
A 57-year-old Fond du Lac man has been convicted of election fraud-falsifying voter registration for illegally registering his residential address as a post office box before voting in the November 3rd, 2020 election. Sam Wells never actually resided in the ward where he voted and did not reside in Fond du Lac County. He was originally charged with felony election fraud, but that was amended to misdemeanor election fraud and he was fined $300. Wells was the third person convicted of election fraud for voting in the November 3rd, 2020 election in Fond du Lac County. District Attorney Eric Toney says, “Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy.” He says Wells’ conviction is not indicative of widespread voter fraud.
Ripon Common Council Approves Grant Submission Request
The Ripon Common Council last night approved a resolution which will allow the city to apply for a grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to make improvements to the Village Green. Ripon Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon told the Council if they did everything they would like to do it would cost $1 million but they would need community partners to pull that off. Some of the things they would like to do include redesigning the Village Green to include additional street entrances, grading and landscaping, planting trees, additional park benches and planters, construction of a 20 by 40 foot or bigger pergola, and more. The Council unanimously approved the resolution to allow submission of an application for a Vibrant Spaces Grant Program. Ripon Main Street owns about three-quarters of the Village Green and Ripon College the remaining quarter section.
Green Lake Animal Shelter Will Not Hold A Rummage Sale In 2023
The board of directors for the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter made a tough decision Monday night to not have a rummage sale in 2023. In a Facebook post officials say their good friends and supporters at Modern Rental will no longer be offering tent rentals. The prices for tent rentals at other outlets are too high to justify holding the event. Based on previous rummage sales $10,000 to $15,000 was made, and it would cost at least $10,000 to rent the tent and tables. Officials also checked into the price of purchasing their own tent and renting a space to hold the annual fundraiser but both were too costly. They are hoping someone will come up with a better solution.
The Gift Of Safety
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says if you’re stuck for gift ideas this season consider the gift of safety. She says carbon monoxide detectors, weather radios, and radon test kits are inexpensive and can save lives. Mueller says carbon monoxide is a “silent killer” because it is colorless and odorless. On average it sends 500 Wisconsin residents to the hospital emergency rooms each year. She says it is important to have your furnace or wood stove inspected each year to make sure they are functioning properly and are properly vented outdoors. As for radon test kits they are available through the Fond du Lac County Health Department.

Attendance Matters
The Oshkosh Area School District recently launched a school attendance campaign, centered on helping students understand that attending school matters because they matter. District Superintendent Bryan Davis says, “Every day a student is absent from school is a lost opportunity for learning and growth.” The ultimate goal of the campaign is to establish a culture of school attendance that leads to higher attendance rates with fewer students being identified as chronically absent. Research shows that students who consistently miss school are at risk of lower academic achievement, failure and even dropping out of school altogether. As part of the campaign, every student household in the District received a mailing that included a letter from Superintendent Davis, as well as a refrigerator magnet with school start times.
