12/10/22 Ripon Fire Chief Tim Saul Retires

After nearly 10 years as Chief of the Ripon Area Fire District Tim Saul retired Friday. In a brief press release Ripon Area Fire District Board President Ellen Sorensen announced Saul’s retirement with the district wishing for him to do well in his future endeavors. Deputy Fire Chief Mark Sabel will be leading the Department until the Fire District Board meets to appoint an interim fire chief for the Department. Saul had a serious battle with COVID-19 in 2020 nearly dying and says he came out of the hospital intending to retire. He has over 35 years in the fire service and recently turned 55 years old. He says he made the decision for his own mental and physical health. Saul says when it is your time to retire you just know. He mentioned he loves the job, the community, and the people. Saul and his wife Renee own the business Sweet and Saulty’s which has two locations in Ripon and an ice cream truck. Saul says in talking with him about his retirement his wife told him she could hire him now.
