From Wayne Mausser

The Packers continue to get ready for Tennessee Titans in Thursday Night Football at Lambeau Field.  On the Tuesday, the team announced it released punt returner/wide receiver Amari Rodgers . Rodgers, a 3rd round pick in 2021, had fumbling issues returning punts, the latest being Sunday against the Cowboys. Rodgers’ fumble against the Cowboys on a 3rd quarter punt return led to a go ahead Dallas score, and earned Rodgers a seat on the bench. GM Brian Gutekunst then released Rodgers, along with running back Kylin Hill – a 7th round pick in the 2021 draft.  Hill has been active for 2 games after returning from an ACL injury suffered his rookie season. He had 1 carry against the Lions.

“We are in a production based business,” said coach Matt LaFleur. “You know, it’s unfortunate. It truly is. I feel for him. He’s a guy I’ve got a lot of respect for, and care for deeply. I’m confident he’s going to get another shot.”

Rodgers had just 4 catches as a receiver his rookie season, and despite injuries this year, still could not find any traction on offense this season with just 4 catches on 8 targets. He lost his kick returner job a few weeks ago, then coughed up his 5th fumble of the season against Dallas.

The Packers (4-6), who snapped a five-game losing streak with a 31-28 overtime win over Dallas, will try to build off that victory with another against a very tough opponent.  The Tians are 6-3 and lead the AFC South.

Green Bay listed 17 players on the team’s injury report Tuesday. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers saw limited participation, still bothered by a sore thumb on his throwing hand.  The Titans also had 17 players on their injury report.

Jordan Davis scored 11 points and Wisconsin overcame a horrible shooting night to turnback Green Bay 56-45 on Tuesday.

The Badgers survived 30% shooting by going 8 of 19 (42.1%) from 3-point range and 16 of 19 from the foul line. They also had a 45-25 rebounding advantage, 15-3 on the offensive end, which was needed as they outscored the Phoenix 17-2 in second-chance points.  Wisconsin is now 27-1 all-time against Green Bay; 23-0 in Madison.

An 11-0 run, starting with three 3s, had Wisconsin up 26-11 with four minutes to go in the first half and the Badgers led 32-15 at the half as the Phoenix went 1 of 10 from 3-point range and shot 21%.

But Green Boy had a 14-1 run early in the second half, the last eight by Cade Meyer, to pull within 35-29 with 13:13 to play.

A Zae Blake layup and Brock Heffner’s free throw made it 37-27 with under 11 minutes to play but at the midpoint Davis knocked down a 3-pointer. It was the Badgers’ first field goal in more than nine minutes and ended an 0-for-6 shooting drought.

Blake’s 3 with 5:41 left pulled Green Bay within 44-38 and it was a seven-point game with under three minutes to play when Steven Crowls hit a 3 and converted a three-point play 19 seconds apart to seal the game.

Crowls finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Tyler Wahl and Chucky Hepburn, who combined to average 25.7 points, split 16 points on a combined 4 of 25 shooting.

Blake scored 15 points for Green Bay (0-3) and Meyer had 13. The Phoenix shot 50% in the second half.

Elsewhere, Ripon Collge improved to 2-0 on the season with a 69-67 win at home over UW-Platteville. Jalen Malone led the Red Hawks with 13 points and Luke Meinholz added 12. Platteville’s Logan Pearson led all scorers with 33 points and Ben Probst had 11. Ripon hosts Coe College on Saturday.

The New York Mets‘ Buck Showalter was named National League Manager of the Year on Tuesday night, becoming just the third person to take the prize four times and the first to do it with four different franchises.

Showalter is the first Mets manager to win the award, which has been presented since 1983. He received eight of 30 first-place votes, 10 second-place votes and 77 total points, edging Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts, who finished second. Roberts also earned eight first-place votes but had just four second-place votes for 57 points. Atlanta‘s Brian Snitker, who won the award in 2018, finished third with 55 points. He received seven first-place votes.

Voting was done by a Baseball Writers’ Association of America panel and conducted before the postseason.

Showalter, 66, has now won Manager of the Year in four different decades, his previous awards coming in the AL with the New York Yankees (1994), Texas Rangers (2004) and Baltimore Orioles (2014). The other four-time winners are Hall of Famers Bobby Cox and Tony La Russa.

The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Motor City Cruise 137-112. The Herd dominated the second and third quarters offensively, scoring over 40 points in each. The Herd also dominated defensively, keeping the Cruise to 25 points in the third and fourth quarters. The Herd pushed past Motor City to win 137-112.
