From Wayne Mausser.
Aaron Rodgers doubled down on Tuesday’s comments on the Pat McAfee Show that some of his teammates need to perform or see less playing time. He is clearly frustrated by the team’s lack of success and the fact that some players are not preparing like they should and said it’s time for everyone to listen.
“You know, I’m not going to be a robot up here,” Rodgers said. “I don’t understand why people have a problem with things that are truthful. I am calling things the way I see it. If people don’t think I need to air that stuff out, that’s their opinion. But I am doing what I think is in the best interest of our guys. I have tried a lot of different things from a leadership standpoint this year. I was just relating my personal feeling on the situation. I didn’t call anybody out by name. I think we all need to be on the details. And that includes me. If I need to have 1-on-1 extra conversations with the guys throughout the week, then I am going to do that. The level of accountability is the standard here. and I don’t think it should be a problem to any of those guys to hear criticism. We all hear criticism in our own ways and we all have to be ok with it and take it in.”
Rodgers said none of his teammates have objected or talked to him about his comments.
Another question was asked near the end of his weekly interview in front of his locker was whether or not his throwing thumb is broken. He quickly answered that it’s hurt and that was all. He plans to tape it from the start of the game Sunday at Buffalo. And while Rodgers didn’t practice Wednesday, he was out there for team drills to help call plays in so teammates could hear his voice.
The Packers had 4 starters sitting out practice: Rodgers, Allen Lazard, Elgton Jenkins, and Rashan Gary. Left tackle David Bakhtiari practiced in a limited fashion.
Green Bay (3-4) and in the throes of a three-game losing streak is at Buffalo Sunday night against the 5-1 Bills.
In Thursday Night Football Baltimore is at Tampa Bay. The Ravens are 4-3 and tied with the Bengals for the top spot in the AFC North while Tampa Bay is 3-4 and tied with Atlanta for first place in the NFC South. The Buccaneers have lost two straight and quarterback Tom Brady and his tetammates have not played up to the standard over the previoius two years since Brady joined the team.
The Chicago Beares traded veteran pass-rusher Robert Quinn to the Philadephia Eagles in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.
Both teams announced the terms of the trade Wednesday afternoon, pending Quinn passing a physical.
Quinn had been with the Bears since April 2020 when he signed a five-year, $70 million deal as a free agent. A league source confirmed with ESPN that the Bears are absorbing the bulk of Quinn’s 2022 salary.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 43 points, 14 rebounds and five assists and the Milwaukee Bucks went on a lopsided run after Brooklyn coach Steve Nash was ejected in the third quarter to beat the Nets 110-99 on Wednesday night.
Antetokounmpo scored 34 points in the second half as the Bucks outscored the Nets 67-44 over the final two periods. After shooting just 3 of 10 in the first half, Antetokounmpo went 13 of 15 in the second half. He was following up a Saturday performance in which he scored 44 points and shot 17 of 21 in a 125-105 rout of the Houston Rockets, marking just the fifth time in NBA history a player had scored at least 44 points while playing less than 28 minutes.
Bobby Portis had 20 points and 11 rebounds for Milwaukee, and Jrue Holiday added 15 points.
Kevin Durant scored 33 points for Brooklyn. Kyrie Irving had 27,
Nash was ejected for the first time as Nets coach since taking over at the start of the 2020-21 season. Nash was ejected twice during his 18-season playing career.
