Fall River Teen Charged With Attempted Murder

The 17-year-old Fall River man who ran over a girl in Beaver Dam over the weekend allegedly did it on purpose. According to the criminal complaint Dylan Lenz told investigators he had been entertaining thoughts of “murdering people.” Police were called to the Walmart parking lot Saturday night for a hit and run. The victim suffered critical and life-threatening injuries and was taken to the UW Children’s Hospital in Madison. Staff there reported she wasn’t able to breath on her own, had no movement below the waist, and both her ankles were broken. Lenz told investigators he stabbed her in the right shoulder with a boxcutter and when she got out of his vehicle he chased after her running over her when she tripped and fell. Lenz made his initial appearance in Dodge County court Monday on an attempted first degree intentional homicide charge. Bond was set at $150,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 17th.

Fatal Accident In Sheboygan County

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s officials say a 20-year-old Plymouth man was killed after crashing into a bridge pier column on Interstate 43 in the town of Holland last night. Dispatchers received a number of 911 calls at 9:45 Tuesday evening about the crash on County Road AA at I-43. The man was heading east on County Road AA prior to hitting the column. He was the only one in the vehicle. Oostburg fire and first responders and Orange Cross Ambulance Service assisted the Sheriff’s office at the scene.

Former Dodge County Strip Club Owner Sentenced

The former owner and co-operator of a Dodge County strip club will be spending a year in prison on federal prostitution charges. Sixty-two-year-old Radomir Buzdum, formerly of Watertown, pled guilty to charges stemming from the operation of a strip club in Lebanon. He and Timothy Miller of Watertown operated the establishment together and were both charged. Miller pled guilty in August on similar charges and is scheduled to be sentenced on November 9th. Buzdum was also ordered to pay back over $171,000 dollars to the IRS and was placed on extended supervision for two years. In 2020 Christopher Childs of Hartford was sentenced to 27 years in prison for forcing dancers at the club to perform sex for money. Childs pocketed that money.

Outagamie County Man Sentenced For Threatening Judge

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney acted as a special prosecutor for an Outagamie County case in which a 44-year-old man threatened to kill an Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge last year. It is the sixth time Benjamin Biese has been convicted of threatening a judge dating back to 1995. Tuesday Biese was sentenced to a year in prison and a year of extended supervision. Toney says with his current prison sentences Biese will not be released until 2047. Toney says, “Earlier this year retired Judge John Roemer was murdered on July 3rd and we must protect our judiciary to ensure our judges are able to administer equal justice under the law for all without fear or favor from those before them.”

Microsoft Scam

Markesan Police are warning residents that the “Microsoft Security” scam has returned to the area. In this particular case it began with a pop up on a resident’s computer device that said your computer has been hacked and prompts them to call for assistance. The scammer was granted access to the computer and tried to access accounts. This scam had a happy ending for the person being scammed because they went to their bank and had all their funds and accounts locked down. Police says the scammer also told the person their phone was bugged and their bank was being investigated so they wouldn’t report the scam to authorities.

RASD School Board Passes Budget Changes And Tax Levy

The Ripon Area School District Board of Education passed the 2022-23 Budget changes and tax levy Monday night. The $6.4 million tax levy is an increase of 8.1 percent over the past year, but the mill rate of $8.15 is 12 cents lower that for the past academic year. District Business Director Jonah Adams told the board that the mill rate and levy will remain the same whether or not an operational referendum passes next month. He says the district saw property values increase by $70 million and the state aid is $601,000 more than anticipated. If the referendum doesn’t pass the district will use federal funds it was hoping to spread out over a couple of years to balance the budget. On November 8th voters in the school district will be asked to allow the district to exceed its revenue cap by $850,000 a year for six years.

Cat Crisis

Officials at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society say they are facing a crisis. They are in need of foster homes for cats. The shelter took in 55 cats in the past week, 18 from a single residence. They say it would be great if people want to adopt a cat, but at this point they need homes willing to adopt a cat or two for 2 to 3 weeks. Foster home applications are available online.  For the near future because they are at maximum capacity the shelter will not be able to help anyone with cats outside of their contracts for strays. Anyone that needs to find a new home for their cat is encouraged to consider the rehoming page which is also available online.

Catalytic Converter Thefts Continue

The head of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Investigative Division says catalytic converter thefts are continuing in the county, but have slowed down since the beginning of last month. Lieutenant Chris Randall says they took a report from a business last week, but can’t pinpoint the exact date it was taken because the business is only open sporadically. It happened on the outskirts of Fond du Lac. Randall says they’ve kept in touch with local scrap yards in case stolen catalytic converters show up there. He says it’s sad when a school district has to delay or cancel classes because their busing service was hit by the thefts. That happened in Oshkosh. Randall urges anyone who sees something or a vehicle that looks suspicious to report it to them or their local law enforcement agency.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The public health officer for Fond du Lac County says unfortunately domestic violence goes on in the nation and across the county every day, but help is available for victims. Kim Mueller says the key is working up enough courage to report it and decide to take advantage of a shelter. She says if you don’t know where one is call 2-1-1. In Fond du Lac SSM Health and the Solutions Center provides those services. In Oshkosh there is the Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services with offices in Oshkosh and by appointment in Menasha and at the Town Square Community Center in Green Lake. It is estimated that domestic violence occurs nearly every 15 seconds in the United States. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
