Looks Like Candy But Kills
An increase in drug overdoses is largely due to the user not knowing that what they are taking includes fentanyl. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says kids that steal prescription drugs from their parents or grandparents’ medicine cabinets know that those pills came from a pharmacy. But she says it is a different story on the street and a new trick of the trade is making pills laced with fentanyl look like a type of candy. She says the Health Department is willing to offer Narcan training to individuals and groups and even supply Narcan in an effort to combat drug overdoses in the county. She says they are willing to tailor their presentation for groups. Anyone who is interested in Narcan training should call the Health Department at 920-929-3085. Washington County Court Date Scam
Washington County is the latest to experience the “missed court date” scam phone call scheme. Sheriff’s officials say an individual claiming to be “from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office” is calling local residents stating they missed their court date and need to pay their fine or they will be arrested. The Sheriff’s Office does not solicit payments by telephone and will never call someone on the telephone and ask them to send money to resolve their legal issues. Sheriff’s officials recommend if you receive such a phone call just to hang up. Do not provide any personal information, and do not send any money.
Waupun Life Saving Awards
The Waupun Police Department this week presented life-saving awards to a Good Samaritan, one of their own, and a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy for saving the life of a 2-year-old child. On October 4th the child exited a residence. A short time later Lanna Beloungy saw the child in the Rock River at Harris Mill Park. She called the Sheriff’s Dispatch Center as she attempted to get the child out of the water. Waupun Police Officer Trevor Kreitzman, Lieutenant Joe Pfalzgraf, and Sheriff’s Deputy Lucas Olson arrived on the scene. They were able to successfully rescue the unharmed child from the water. Waupun Police Chief Scott Louden presented Beloungy, Kreitzman, and Olson with awards for their quick response and team work leading to a successful outcome.

Trigger Finger and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Information Sessions
SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital will be hosting two information sessions about new treatments available for individuals with trigger finger and carpal tunnel syndrome. The sessions will be at 3:30 and 5:30 pm on Thursday, October 27th. They will be followed by free10-minute individual consultations with Dr. Richard Schaefer a board-certified plastic surgeon with SSM Health’s Fond du Lac Regional Clinic. He says the UltraGuide trigger finger release procedure involves a local anesthetic and only a small incision and the patient is able to drive themselves home in the same day. More than 8.5 million Americans suffer from trigger finger. Meanwhile carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes numbness, tingling and pain in the hand and forearm. Schaefer says the good news is that is also treatable. Registration for the two information sessions in Ripon can be done online at ssmhealth.com/handrelief. You can also call 920-926-8614 for more information about plastic surgery.
