10/14/22 National Move Over Day Saturday
14 October 2022 News
Area Sheriff’s Departments and the Wisconsin State Patrol are reminding drivers that Saturday is National Move Over Day. It is a nationwide effort to bring awareness to an important traffic safety topic. All motorists can do their part when they pass stopped emergency and maintenance workers alongside the roadways. If you can’t move over you are urged to slow down. Specifically, “The law requires drivers to shift lanes or slow down in order to provide a “safety zone” for a squad car, ambulance, fire truck, tow truck, utility vehicle, or highway maintenance vehicle that is stopped on the side of a road with its warning lights flashing.” In the last few years Sheriff’s Departments in Winnebago and Fond du Lac County have had several close calls and the State Patrol has had a few cruisers hit by vehicles that didn’t move over while they were out on a traffic stop or responding to an accident scene.
