Suspect In Chippewa County Child Kidnapping Charged
The 22-year-old Tennessee man who allegedly abducted a 15-year-old Chippewa County girl from her home last weekend was charged in Chippewa County court Wednesday. Trevor Blackburn is charged with one count of kidnapping, seven counts of first degree sexual assault of a child, and one count each of strangulation and suffocation and burglary. He is being held in the Chippewa County jail on a $1 million cash bond and will be back in court on December 21st. According to Sheriff’s officials the victim and Blackburn had been corresponding on line and was being blackmailed over explicit photos that were sent to Blackburn after he threatened her family. According to the criminal complaint Blackburn traveled to Wisconsin and took her from her home last Saturday. She was sexually assaulted at multiple locations. She managed to get away after he took her into some woods. She fell asleep and when she woke up he wasn’t around. She went to a home and called law enforcement. Blackburn was taken into custody Sunday after a traffic stop in Douglas County. Law enforcement found him by tracking his cell phone. He was in the back seat of a vehicle that had two other people in it.
Former Winneconne Teacher Charged With Child Enticement
Bond was set at $5,000 cash for a Kimberly teacher charged with child enticement in Winnebago County court. Twenty-four-year-old Brian Brown of Oshkosh is suspected of sending inappropriate pictures and messages via Snapchat to three of his former students at Winneconne High School. A criminal complaint alleged he added former students to his Snapchat, and the victims say the messages began friendly. However, the victims say messages started getting “weird.” Victims were getting pictures from him and invitations to “Come cuddle,” even being offered pay. He also requested photos of a victim’s chest. Police became aware of Brown’s messages at the end of last month. He is charged with child enticement-prostitution, soliciting intimate representation from a minor, exposing a child to harmful material, and disorderly conduct. During the bond hearing Thursday Brown’s lawyer said he never met with any of the victims following the exchanges on Snapchat. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on October 20th. He was placed on leave from the Kimberly School District last week.
Policing Alcohol Use At Public Events
As a former coordinator for the Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County, Ripon City Alderperson Ellen Sorensen takes a keen interest in requests for alcohol licenses for short-term events. Sorensen says she wants to make sure that event coordinators are doing their homework and are not promoting binge drinking at their events. She says as a former Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director she knows events can be held that are alcohol-free and the public will enjoy. She cites Cookie Daze and Dickens of a Christmas as examples. She says Wisconsin is known for its binge drinking and it is not good for kids to see alcohol being served at every event. Sorensen does note that when they used to do Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug use surveys for Ripon alcohol was a problem for youth but isn’t as much now.
Good Participation In The Watson Street Car Show
An organizer for the Watson Street Car Show held during Septemberfest in Ripon last month says they had their best turnout yet for participation in the show. Howard Stibb says 240 cars were entered compared to the previous high of 220 last year. He says they also received a lot of great compliments about how well-organized the show was. The top three cars in each class received plaques with pictures of their cars. But only one car could be picked as “Best in Show” and Stibb says it was a tough decision for the judges. A man from Pound took that top honor with a 1968 Plymouth GTX. He says there were four or five vehicles that easily could have been “Best of Show.” Some of the places those cars came from were Kiel, West Bend, and Waunakee.
City Of Berlin Tourism Grant Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for fall grants for tourism events and projects in the City of Berlin is at noon Monday. Nonprofit organizations can apply for room tax funds for tourism events or projects that will likely generate paid overnight stays in the City. Tourism events or projects include marketing projects, including: advertising media buys, creation and distribution of printed or electronic promotional tourism materials: or efforts to recruit conventions, sporting events, or motor coach groups. Transient tourist information services are also eligible for funding. The Tourism Commission reviews applications two times a year in the Spring and Fall. Space Day Saturday At EAA Aviation Museum
The EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh will host its annual Space Day from 10 am to 4 pm Saturday. It’s part of the museum’s celebration of World Space Week and some of the fun includes being able to climb inside a full-scale replica of the Mercury and Gemini space capsules. There will also be a Moon Game, Compressed Air Rockets, and Re-entry Capsule Design. The highlight though may be the featured speaker Eileen Collins who in July of 1999 became the first woman to command a space shuttle mission in the Discovery shuttle. Dick Knapinski of EAA says Collins is especially focused on getting girls interested in flight. Collins talk is at 4 pm. All activities will be included in regular museum admission.
Wautoma Police Department Goes Pink
The Wautoma Police Department is showing its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink badges. Residents are urged to stop and take a photo if they come across and officer, then upload the picture to the Wautoma Police Department’s Facebook post. This year any donations Wautoma Police receive will be given to La Clinica Family Health in Wautoma. Donations can be made to an officer, at the police department or La Clinica. They can also be donated online. A link is available on the department’s Facebook page.

Senator Johnson Staff Mobile Office Hours
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson’s staff will be available in eight different locations for mobile office hours next week. On Wednesday they will be at the Wild Rose Community Center at 8 am, the Montello Public Library at 10 am, the Berlin Public Library at 12:30 pm, and at the Elisha D. Smith Public Library in Menasha at 2:30 pm. Thursday staff will be at the Fond du Lac Public Library at 9 am, Sheboygan Falls Memorial Library at 11 am, Jack Russell Memorial Library in Hartford at 1 pm, and the Iron Ridge Public Library at 3 pm. The office hours give constituents the opportunity to meet with Senator Johnson’s staff to request assistance with a federal agency or other federal matters.
