Skunk Hollow Mine Opposition

A neighborhood ad-hoc committee has joined those opposing the proposed Skunk Hollow Mine. The limestone quarry would be located at the corner of County Highway K and Brooklyn G Road in Green Lake County. In July the county’s Land Use Planning and Zoning Committee approved a conditional use permit for Kopplin and Kinas for the 40-acre site. Last month the Green Lake Association, Green Lake Conservancy, Green Lake Sanitary District, and local resident Ernie Neuenfeldt filed a lawsuit against the county asking for a judicial review. That lawsuit is currently on hold pending an appeal before the Green Lake County Board of Adjustment on October 12th. Also Judge Mark Slate has given the two sides time to ask him to recuse himself because his brother-in-law sits on the Zoning Committee which creates the appearance of a conflict in interest. Meanwhile a Neighborhood ad-hoc committee has joined opposition to the proposeD mine. Mark Lindquist is a spokesperson for the committee. He lives on Skunk Ridge Lane across from the proposed mine. He says the decision to issue the conditional use permit seemed rushed through. He says the mine would also be located in environmentally sensitive areas including Mitchell Glen and the Big Green Lake tributaries Powell Spring, White Creek and Dakin Creek. He says beyond the possible runoff problems from the mine, there will be dust, blasting, and truck traffic for the neighbors to contend with. Lindquist says they aren’t opposed to mining, but there are plenty more suitable sites in the county.

Calumet County Fatal Traffic Accident Update

Authorities in Calumet County have identified the 52-year-old Neenah woman who was killed when her SUV collided with a dump truck Tuesday morning. Sheriff’s officials say the angle of the sun was a factor in a crash that claimed the life of Patricia Nau. The accident occurred on State Highway 114 and State Park Road in the Town of Harrison shortly after 7:30 am. Investigators say Nau was heading east and she turned in front of the westbound dump truck. She died at the scene. The 47-year-old Greenleaf man driving the dump truck escaped with minor injuries.

Man Wanted In Connection With Clintonville Carjacking Caught

Bayfield County Sheriff’s deputies yesterday took the 23-year-old man wanted in connection with a carjacking in Clintonville into custody. Officials say no officers or Seth Genereau were harmed when he was arrested. A resident living on Howell Road found Genereau inside their home Wednesday afternoon. But the fugitive once again was able to escape by fleeing on foot.  He had escaped into the woods after a car chase and crash in Iron and Bayfield counties last Friday.  Last week he stole two different vehicles in Hortonville and Clintonville. The theft in Clintonville happened at a Citgo gas station where he struck an 81-year-old Michigan man and took his vehicle. Genereau is facing charges in multiple counties.

Busing Resumes In Oshkosh Area School District

Busing to and from schools in the Oshkosh Area School District returns to normal today after a couple of days when that service was delayed or cancelled due to catalytic converter thefts impacting Kobussen’s entire Oshkosh terminal.  Tthere was no busing to schools in Oshkosh Thursday for any students. Families that receive busing were informed of the situation earlier in the morning and were asked to make other arrangements to get their children to and from school. Only co-curricular and field trip busing occurred. That was possible because Kobussen was able to bring the small number of buses needed for a short time from other terminals to temporarily meet those needs. Kobussen’s catalytic converter thefts first caused a busing delay in the Oshkosh Area School District on Wednesday. Though Kobussen made every effort to resume regular busing additional thefts occurred overnight Wednesday.

Senator Johnson Sets The Record Straight On Social Security and Medicare

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson says accusations that he wants to end Medicare and Social Security are the worst kind of lie. The federal lawmaker from Oshkosh says Democrats have stooped to using the same lie in his first two runs for office and again in his third. He says he has been pointing out that the Biden Administration has been on a spending spree which is fueling inflation. Johnson points out that we have to reduce spending and inflation for when we need more money to bolster the Medicare and Social Security Trust Funds, which is expected to be in 2028 and 2034 respectively.

Leaf Pick Up In Ripon Starts In Mid-October

Leaf pickup in the City of Ripon will begin in mid-October and continue through the third Friday in November. Any leaves after the final pick up are the responsibility of the residents or property owner.  The city reminds residents not to rake leaves into the street or gutter. Leaf windrows should not be wider than three feet from the curb and leaves should not be put in the garbage or recyclable cans.
