9/26/22 Ribbon Cutting For RCH Day Stabilization Unit Attended By The Governor

26 September 2022 News

Governor Tony Evers was on hand as SSM Health held a ribbon-cutting for its new mental health outpatient day stabilization unit at Ripon Community Hospital Monday. The new service is supported by a $158,000 Healthcare Infrastructure Capital Grant from the state’s Department of Administration. Tiffany Parker is the Director of Behavioral Health Hospital-Based Services for SSM Health’s Greater Fond du Lac Region. She says opening later this fall it will offer assistance, services, and support for up to 23 hours to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. It can serve up to eight people at a time.  Governor Evers says the day stabilization unit will be the first of its kind in Wisconsin. He says over the past few years health care workers have seen first-hand the mental health issues COVID-19 and substance abuse have caused. According to the National Alliance for Mental Illness, mental illness is very common. One in five people live with a mental health condition. With the high demand for psychiatry and outpatient mental health services the wait lists are six to eight months or longer. (All photos courtesy SSM Health)
