Horicon Woman Sentenced For Biting A Police Officer
A Horicon woman who bit a police officer during a prostitution sting will be serving a year-and-a-half in prison and two years of extended supervision. Alaysha Smithcoleman was sentenced in Dodge County court Tuesday on a battery to a law enforcement officer charge. Prostitution and drug charges were read into the record and dismissed. Charges stem from Smithcoleman’s May 12th arrest. During an investigation it was learned she was using an online site to offer to do sexual acts in return for money. She invited an undercover officer to her residence and offered to perform a sex act and accepted money in advance for it. That’s when the officer signaled other officers to enter the residence and help with her arrest. During that effort Smithcoleman tried to kick one officer multiple times and bit another on the chest. A two-year-old child was present in another room watching television during the incident.

Ripon Area School District Annual Meeting
Those attending the annual meeting of the Ripon Area School District next Monday night will be asked to consider approving two resolutions for the tax levy for the 2022-23 school year. One reflects the budget if an $850,000 operational referendum passes in November and the other if it does not. The change would be reflected in the General Fund and would not change the overall amount of the budget which is projected to be $27.1 million. District Business Manager Jonah Adams says the annual meeting comes at a time when they are working with estimates for key pieces in the budget that they won’t know until next month. At this point the District is working with an $8.15 mill rate which Adams says is a conservative estimate but still an all-time low for the District. Next Monday’s meeting is at 6 pm in the Ripon High School Community Room.

Electric Vehicles
Congressman Glenn Grothman says California’s proposal to go with electric vehicles and do away with the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines may not be very practical. Grothman says a California Congressman he knows is embarrassed by the proposal and thinks it is crazy. He says it show the type of crazy people they are getting in the Democratic Party on the West Coast and East Coast. The federal lawmaker says some things would have to be worked out to make the idea practical such as being able to endure a Wisconsin Winter and having an adequate supply of charging stations around the country for those who travel frequently.
New Radar Trailers
Better check your speed if you’re driving through Fond du Lac County and the Sheriff’s Office is making it easier to do that. The Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the County’s Traffic Safety Committee was selected by the Bureau of Transportation Safety to receive two additional grant-funded radar trailers. This will give the Sheriff’s Department three radar trailers because they already had one for many years. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says they will be set up both on busy highways where they have problems with excessive speeding or crashes, as well as rural roadways or residential neighborhoods where speeding concern exist. Traffic safety is one of the primary objectives of the Sheriff’s Office.
