Investigation Into Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office Continues

A special prosecutor will review the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office in an investigation involving allegations of altered reports that could affect cases in the County’s Circuit Court system. District Attorney Veronica Isherwood requested a Public Integrity investigation of the Sheriff’s Office from the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. The investigation has been completed. As a result the Waupaca County Circuit Court has appointed a Special Prosecutor to review the investigation for possible criminal charges. Sheriff Timothy Wilz issued a statement Monday calling Isherwood’s release of a press release an 11th hour election stunt. Wilz said the District Attorney dismissing cases has nothing to do with issues with the Sheriff’s Office, but in reality she is soft on crime. Wilz sent a letter to the Attorney General’s Office in June requesting misconduct charges against District Attorney Isherwood. Wilz is being challenged by Sheriff’s Sergeant Cameron Durrant in today’s primary election. Isherwood’s complaints have to do with alleged Brady violations in a court case in which the Sheriff testified about corrections to reports in the Sheriff’s Office.
